Happiness Is...

Blech. I am in a funk.

I'm quite certain I know who's to blame (I'm on to you, Captain...), but still...funk city over here.

Not sure if I wanna cry the whole day or sleep the day away...but I can't do, instead...I'll focus on happiness.

On positivity.'s what makes the world go 'round! (But that's a whole 'nuther post!)

Happiness is:

~Seeing my children's smiles every morning.

~Having the most amazing husband in the entire world.

~Realizing the laundry isn't as suffocating as I had originally imagined.

~Discovering an untapped 1/2 gallon of Cotton Candy ice cream in the freezer.

~Getting a "first ever" text from my newly "iPhone" acquired mama.

~A nap. A long, deep, much needed nap.

~Ginger Snap cookies...fresh from the oven.

~Enough food to fill our bellies.

~Friends. Some of the most amazing, wonderful, beautiful friends to have ever walked the Earth.

~God. He's always with me...I just need to reach out.

~Happiness. (Can I say that? Happiness is Happiness?!)

~An ice cold can of Coke.

~My Baby Girl, reaching her arms up and saying, "I need me!"

~A roof over my head.

~My Grandparents.

~Some pretty durn amazing parents.

~A few totally rockin' brothers.

~My Life.

Wow. I feel better already!

What's your happiness?

  1. Looks like you have a lot to be thankful for, my friend :-)

  2. Awww...I liked that! I'm sending warm weather thoughts your way..

  3. I think is awesome how your turning a funky day around :)

Thanks for the idea- for when funky days hit my way, i will try to focus on the positive :)

  4. Awww! Such a sweet post! Happiness to me is my sweet, little family, and just about everything else you listed! We are greatly blessed!

  5. Oh do I understand being in a funk.... though I know why mine is upon me.... partially its because I start school again tomorrow... and Mondays and Wednesdays are going to be long days especially Mondays.....

To me happiness is my kids and how they get along or don't get along depending on the moment. ...the roll of paper towels I have in my hand ready to chuck at my son if his thumb goes into his mouth.... ugh.....

The fact that in a few weeks I will really be able to re-discover who I really am without anything to hold me back.... besides said kids.....

  6. Aww, I loved this post; I'm totally in a funk, myself!

  7. happiness is when my family is on vacation. i do not mean spending money, when we went to williamsburg for a week we had a ball. even more fun than at disney. we were all in one hotel room we did EVERYTHING together. we did not have chores and school work (although they got alot of school in there they did not know about) and we laughed and stayed up until midnight watching animal planet and laughing and laughing. it was wonderful

  8. Cotton Candy ice cream? How come I haven't heard of that before? :)

  9. My happiness is....making it an entire day without crying. I have a wonderful husband, and my girls are incredible! It was a good day. A very good day!

What wonderful bessings you have, darlin. Cherish them. :)

  10. I have never heard of cotton candy ice cream! My Thursday post will be all about what makes me happy! Stop by if you can!

  11. knowing that cherry soda exists,
a big long hug from my honey,
a good belly laugh with my students,
    a smile from a friend,
oh yeah and a good nap.

  12. Sometimes it just takes making a list. :D

    HUmmmm, Cotton Candy ice cream?

  13. Saw your question on Dooce. Thanks for the pick me up!

  14. Happiness all those things you listed.. AND a solid eight hours of sleep...oh oh and a piece of chocolate cake with a tall glass of ice cold milk

  15. happiness is... finding that casserole I froze last month and forgot about when my irst attempt at dinner went up in flames...

  16. Way to redirect! Certainly an awesome list. I love the "I need me." Super cute.

  17. Your blog style makes me smile... love the happiness is.... will have to do that on my words for Wednesday... tomorrow... or next week? ;) I am a 'baby blogger'... still figuring this all out... you inspire me! Thanks

  18. Me too, Bestie . . but your Happy List made me smile . . thank you :)

  19. New reader....thx for the pick me up. 2 sick babies, very little sleep, was def in a funk. Went and did my own happiness post and it made me feel better. Thx for the idea! Love your blog.

  20. Happiness is being Happy and having that happiness with you.

There is a song from "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown" called "Happiness" and you made me think of it.

  21. "A nap. A long, deep, much needed nap."

I have two kids and that is my number one right now.

    It would be bliss.

Looks like there's really a lot to be thankful for in your life.

    That's good.

  22. I needed this post because I've been in a funk all week!

  23. Love reading "your Happiness" list! even in these short snippets...I cant help but your sense of humor!

    Blessings & Aloha!

  24. Thank you so much for disclosing your funky mood, then telling us how you got out of it.

As an author on "happiness" I sometimes hestitate to share my "down" moods as if I'm supposed to be "up" all the time. I've learned that readers don't want Ms. Merry Sunshine. They want real people with real problems who figure out how to solve them.

You have much to be grateful for, as do so many of us. We absolutely can't let the blues keep us down and let us forget our blessings.

    Thanks again.

Come here looking for the tutorial? It can be found here:  Halo Braid Tutorial!  Let me know how it goes! I had something in mind to try on Baby Girl's hair the other best bud, Dr. J, did something similar to it on Belle once, and I was trying to replicate it. Instead, I got this: Isn't it pretty?! It didn't take nearly as long as it looks and isn't nearly as intricate as it looks! Vlog tutorial coming soon...(for those of you waiting, I'm sorry it's taking me so long!)

How appropriate, "halo braid", no?! ;) Finally, I have this ready for you...I apologize for the delay! This braid looks intricate, but is really quite easy and quick to pull off...the original video (prior to the warp speed the video to see what I mean) was just a bit over 8 minutes long...not too shabby! But then...STOP! STOP everything, make this, and thank me later! Oh, hold it...wait just a sec (again)...actually, I got this recipe from Melissa...yes, the Melissa of this story ! And this story ...which, the same story, just told two different ways! ;) So, you can thank her...I guess. Well, in any event...prepare your tastebuds to be tantalized! You'll need this: And, this: You'll also need chicken breasts or steak, but since photographing your "main ingredient" is, like, soooo passe, I've left it out. ( Ahem... ) Just keepin ' up with the times, friend. So...slice up those peppers and onions into cute little strips... And...try your best to not slice up the little fingers that are sneaking away pepper strips... (Lemme just inte
