Five Question Friday! 11/5/10

Right about now, as you're reading this, the men in my life are getting ready to go out and be hunters. Does this mean I'm supposed to gather this weekend? And, if I were "gathering" while my men were "hunting", what, exactly, should I gather?

The only thing I have around here to gather are a whole crap pile of leaves, some dead mice, and a bunch of children. No berries. Oh, and yeah...my husband just informed me, "Gathering doesn't mean 'buying stuff'."

Party pooper.

Well, let's get this 5QF show on the road! I've got a house to clean, 'cuz we've got guests coming to stay with us this weekend! Must. Have. Clean. House. (Insert "Mouse Free", where appropriate.)

Rules for 5QF: Copy and paste the following questions to your blog post, answer them, then watch for the linky post to appear Friday morning and LINK UP!! Oh, yeah...and most importantly...HAVE FUN!!

Question for Friday, November 5th: (Special thanks to Sandy, Bethany, Susan, Julianne(and Sugarkanke and some others, too!!) and Pam for their question suggestions! If YOU want to be linked in a future 5QF, c'mon over to my community and offer up some of your best question suggestions! You know you want to...) ;)

1. If you could have any talent and turn it into an occupation, what would it be?

2. Would you rather have a house at the beach or a cabin in the woods?

3. Is there any meaning or reasoning for the names you chose for your child/children?

4. What is your guilty pleasure? (I know we've done this one before, but I'm guessing people's "guilty pleasures" change frequently. At least, mine do!)

5. Do you live in a house that is deep cleaned or straightened?

-----------------------------------------

1. If you could have any talent and turn it into an occupation, what would it be?

Okay...don't laugh.

Promise?

I should, probably, choose something cool and hip like "singing" or "acting", but those people just have way too much stress.

Images to live up to, screaming audiences to please, paparazzi watching their every move. I spend half my life in my jammies, sporting crusty eye boogers, I can't have the paparazzi hangin' out outside my house.

Besides...I'd feel bad for them. Standing out there in the cold.

I'd probably invite them in...then they'd see my eye boogers up close and all my unfolded laundry and a mouse would probably run out from under their butt and that'd be the end of me.

Good bye Academy Award, Hello Eye Boogers.

Okay, okay...back to the question. If I could have any talent be an occupation, I would choose blogging. (HEY! I told you no laughing!)

I can blog from my home, while folding clothes and wiping eye boogers from my eyes and only a (very cool) select few would know who I was.

I mean, think about it. 90% of the people I co-exist with on a daily basis have NO idea who Dooce or The Pioneer Woman are. It like the "perfect" amount of fame.

And moula.

But, I don't think I have anything to write a book about. Wait. I do.

Someday, I will. You watch...you just watch for my book (and, will you come to my book signing so that at least one person is there? It'd mean so much to me.).

2. Would you rather have a house at the beach or a cabin in the woods?

Most definitely a house at the beach. Only, my husband wants a cabin in the woods.

And not just "in the woods"...really, he, more, wants the "entire woods" and if it has a cabin, then BONUS!! We'll have somewhere to take cover when it rains or snows or hails or if there is a hurricane or something.

Wait. We're in the woods, not at the beach. No hurricanes.

Anyway...my question, my answer. Beach. Ahhhhh...yes, the beach. Preferably a lake...'cuz oceans are too salty and they have sharks.

A lake/beach home. It's my dream.

3. Is there any meaning or reasoning for the names you chose for your child/children?

Well, accidently on purpose our kids have names that all start with vowels. A's and E's, actually.

It started out accidentally, then with #3 it was "do we keep this up or let it pass" and we settled on a name we liked that also happened to be an 'E' name and the rest is history.

Take a note from me. Do NOT start any themes whilst naming your children. You pigeon hole yourself then you're stuck with some crappy name just 'cuz you started a silly theme.

Look at the Duggars. J's. And, there are some weird J names in there. Can't pick one off the top of my head...but I know there's some wacky ones.

However...the middle names of our children are all after a family member. I really like that tradition. And our kids enjoy knowing they were named after 'so-and-so'.

4. What is your guilty pleasure? (I know we've done this one before, but I'm guessing people's "guilty pleasures" change frequently. At least, mine do!)

Like it was mentioned above...my old guilty pleasure has changed.

And...er...um...ahem...please don't laugh. Again, please, please don't laugh.

It's...well...

It's...um...

It's *coughTheBackyardiganscough*.

Okay. You can laugh. Yes...friends...I am in love with The Backyardigans. They are so stinkin' cute and happy and they sing catchy little songs that stick in your head for days and days and days ("My elephant, my elephant...") and days and days and they dance all cute and silly like on those goofy little legs they have.

They're adorable. Only...I can't find any more DVD's. It's like MinneSOOOOOta has boycotted them or something.

Seriously. None. Nowhere. Nohow.

I don't get it.

5. Do you live in a house that is deep cleaned or straightened?

What is this "deep cleaned" that you speak of?

I'm not much of a deep cleaner. I've been making a very concerted effort to keep things more picked up now that my baby is *sob* approaching 3 and we don't have oodles of baby toys strewn about and she's old enough to play downstairs with the rest of the kids.

Part of my "reluctance" to deep clean is that even when I do deep clean, it doesn't look deep cleaned or stay deep cleaned. Our carpet is white...well, it's supposed to be white. Or some version of white.

But, after seeing 5 kids grow up upon it, it resembles more of a white tiger with elephantitis and ebola.

Even after we have it cleaned. Soon, and very soon, we will be looking into replacing it.

Only...there's this whole home remodel that I want to do...and why replace the carpets now if we'd just be replacing them when (yes, honey, I said 'WHEN') we remodel?

You know?

Sigh. The life of a poor, untalented, starving blogger.

Yo!! Book deal! Where are ya? I have some remodeling I need to do. Chop chop!! ;)

  9. When my baby was an actual baby I remember my first Backyardigans encounter..."Ohhhhhh Eureka! It's a word from ancient Greek-a, Eureka, Eureka. Ohhhhh Eureka! When you find-a what you seek-a shout Eureka, Eureka." I sang it allll the time and watched it from that point on. Nevermind she was only three months old ;) Love the blog, and especially the 5QF. Have a great weekend.

  10. I love. LOVE. The Backyardigans. Addicted. Have you seen the Mission to Mars episode with Alicia Keys? When hubby and I can't remember what something is called or we brain fart on a word, we sub in Boinga. Adults here, remember... adults. Erm, "Adults"... yeah, with the quotation marks. I'd, by the way, come to your signing. Only if you come to mine. HAHAHAHAHAHA - pipe dream. Sigh. (for me at least)

  13. my DH and I disagree on the beach/woods thing too. Which is why I tell him we need enough money when we retire to buy a condo in Florida and a cabin in Colorado. We can live in Florida in fall and winter, and Colorado in Spring and Summer, and visit either place if we need a break from sand/snow.

  14. Here's one similar to liking the Backyardigans: I miss listening to Laurie Berkner from when the kids were little. She's a singer for the baby/preschool age and not annoying. I knew several of her songs by heart. :)

  15. I will come to your book signing.

I'll even wear a shirt with your picture on it on the front, and on the back it will say MAMA M'S #1 FAN!

Oh yeah...the crowds will part and I will float up to your signing table with my camera at the ready...

Can you picture it? CAN YOU!? It will be awesome.

  16. We went with a double initial theme for our kids and it is HARD to come up with two good names that start with the same letter. It just happened on accident with our first (Piper Penelope) and then became on purpose with our second (Calvin Christopher) and now we have our third (Ethan Everett). We didn't find out what we were having when I was pregnant with Ethan so trying to come up with a boy and girl name with double initials was super hard. So hard that we never actually decided on a girl name and boy was I relieved when Ethan came out. I think I must have known it all along and that's why I couldn't pick a girl name.
I love the Backyardigans too! That is probably my favorite show that the kids watch.

Come here looking for the tutorial? It can be found here:  Halo Braid Tutorial!  Let me know how it goes! I had something in mind to try on Baby Girl's hair the other day...my best bud, Dr. J, did something similar to it on Belle once, and I was trying to replicate it. Instead, I got this: Isn't it pretty?! It didn't take nearly as long as it looks and isn't nearly as intricate as it looks! Vlog tutorial coming soon...(for those of you waiting, I'm sorry it's taking me so long!)

Halo Braid Tutorial!

How appropriate, "halo braid", no?! ;) Finally, I have this ready for you...I apologize for the delay! This braid looks intricate, but is really quite easy and quick to pull off...the original video (prior to the warp speed braiding...watch the video to see what I mean) was just a bit over 8 minutes long...not too shabby! So, here you go...right in time for you to try it out on your little girl for Easter!

Crock-Pot Fajitas

You! Yes, YOU!! You must stop whatevertheheck it is that you are doing, and make this recipe. Right now. Tonight. Well...wait. You should probably finish reading this post first...you know...so you know how to make it... But then...STOP! STOP everything, make this, and thank me later! Oh, hold it...wait just a sec (again)...actually, I got this recipe from Melissa...yes, the Melissa of this story ! And this story ...which, well...is the same story, just told two different ways! ;) So, you can thank her...I guess. Well, in any event...prepare your tastebuds to be tantalized! You'll need this: And, this: You'll also need chicken breasts or steak, but since photographing your "main ingredient" is, like, soooo passe, I've left it out. ( Ahem... ) Just keepin ' up with the times, friend. So...slice up those peppers and onions into cute little strips... And...try your best to not slice up the little fingers that are sneaking away pepper strips... (Lemme just inte
