Five Question Friday! 11/12/10

Big, huge, ginormous sigh of relief that it's the weekend!!!

I'm sitting here in bed, waiting for the ibuprofen to kick in, hubby heating up a hot pack for me, wondering why I work out. The pain...is it worth it? Why can't "flab" be fab? If it were, I'd be the next Victoria's Secret diamond bra/angel wing wearer.

In any event...these gams of mine better get to feelin' fine by Sunday, 'cuz they've gotta haul me around the biggest mall in the world!!

Okie doke...let's get this Five Question Friday goin'!

Rules for Five Question Friday: Copy and paste the following questions to your blog post, answer them, then watch for the linky post to appear tomorrow morning! And remember...HAVE FUN!! This is a fun and easy post, so enjoy it!!

Questions for Friday, November 12th: (Special thanks to Bethany, [inspiration from] Pam,Sandy, Liz, [inspiration from] Colleen for their question suggestions! If YOU would like to be linked in a future 5QF, c'mon over to my community and offer up your best questions!)

1. What is the most physically painful thing that has ever happened to you?

2. How much sleep do you get at night?

3. How long did you believe in Santa Claus? How did you find out that he does not exist?

4. What was the last movie you saw in a theater?

5. What do you wear to bed?

-------------------------------------------

1. What is the most physically painful thing that has ever happened to you?

Well, without a doubt, hands down, no questions asked...my broken toe.

KIDDING!!

Let me remind you of something...I have 5 children. I birth "au naturale". It hurts.

But it feels so good!

Seriously...would you believe me when I say that I honestly and truly enjoyed childbirth? Not, you know, giggles and jokes the whole time...but the feeling. Knowing that my body was doing exactly what it needed to do.

(Disclaimer: I have nothing, absolutely nothing, against women that get epidurals!! It's just my own personal choice to not use meds. Amen. Carry on...)

I love it. Call me crazy...but I miss it.

One of my best buds (who has 4 kiddos) said sometimes it almost feels like an addiction.

Sometimes, I guess, babies are like Lay's potato chips...once you have one, you can't stop! ;)

Er...did I just compare a baby to a potato chip?

2. How much sleep do you get at night?

Well, ever since I started my addiction to babies (see answer above), I have not gotten much sleep. I LOVE sleep. However, I am a night owl. My body wakes up at about 11:30 pm.

I train my babies to sleep late from a very early age...7 am feedings are treated just like 3 am feedings. Change diaper, nurse, back to bed. As a result, they are sleeper-inners.

So, we start to rouse around 8:30-9:00...my baby has even been known to sleep past 10:30 once or twice.

I'm rambling here...I would say, that I get a good 5-6 hours of solid sleep...then I get up and get the big kids off to school, then cozy back into bed until the Littles rise. But, that second burst of sleep is fitful.

And filled with crazy dreams.

What is it about light sleep that causes a girl to dream such crazy dreams?

3. How long did you believe in Santa Claus? How did you find out that he does not exist?

Um. Wait.

Sandy, what do you mean "not exist"? You mean...

*gulp*

You mean...are you trying to tell me...that SANTA CLAUS IS NOT REAL????

Okay, okay...so, I think I was 10ish. I don't remember my age so much as I remember the entire conversation with my mom.

I was in the car with her...unbuckled and riding in the front seat because, apparently, in the 80's people had discovered leg warmers and sky scraper bangs, but NOT seatbelts...and I asked my mom if Santa was real.

She did the typical skirt the question, don't answer directly but do give some sort of answer...and I looked at her and said, "MOM. For real. Is Santa real?" It was a necessity, like air, that I know whether the jolly old soul was, in fact, a bonafide, IRL dude.

And, she answered it truthfully.

Which is why I'm flabbergasted that you, Sandy, implied that he is not real.

Mom...will you please tell Sandy that Santa is real? Thanks. ;)

4. What was the last movie you saw in a theater?

The last movie I saw in a theater was "Descpicible Me". I saw it twice. With two different kiddos, for their respective "Mom and (fill in appropriate child's name here) Day".

I tried to talk my biggest boy into watching it when we did his day, so I could get the Despicable Trifecta, but he didn't go for it.

Which, now that I say that means that Descpicable Me was NOT the last movie I saw in the theater...it was actually "Dinner for Schmucks", which I saw with my 14 year old and while I'm sure it was a hilariously funny movie, I could not get beyond the fact that there were one too many sexual innuendos for me to feel comfortable sitting next to my teenager when watching it.

It ceased to become funny. And, instead, I squirmed. And chuckled nervously. And shook my head.

Some things are just NOT what you want to watch with your 14 year old son.

"Dinner for Schmucks" was one of them.

5. What do you wear to bed?

I am fully clothed, head to toe. Much to my husband's dismay. (Oops, sorry mom and dad.)

But, yes. It's true. I am cold blooded. Warm hearted, but cold blooded. I am rarely warm...and MinneSOOOOta is rarely warm, so cope I must. Which means, warm, cozy jammies.

FYI: Aerie makes THE best jammie pants. In fact, I'm hoping they make them again this year. Cotton lined flannel. Cotton lined flannel is like bacon wrapped meat. You just can't go wrong with it.

And...if the jammies aren't warm enough to keep my core body temp above freezing, then I'll add in my favorite hot pack...sometimes some socks...and maybe an extra blanket.

Added bonus: when my husband is warm and I can put my icy feet on his warm legs. I'm sure he enjoys that soooo much.

  2. ummm... did you just say you enjoyed childbirth? ackkk. I had an epidural and I still rank it up there as one of the worst things ever. besides getting handed a new baby. that is the best. just about 2 more weeks and I'll get to experience it again :)

  3. At least your mom knew that she was answering or skirting your question. I was bombarded by my little one and answered without really considering who I was talking too. Poor thing... still remember the shocked look!

    Take care!
    Dee

PS- And yes... kids ARE like potato chips. Once you have one, it's hard to stop! Hehehehe...

  4. I love your answers! I took my nephews to the movies this summer and had secretly hoped they would want to see Despicable Me (again) but instead they insisted on Cats and Dogs the Return of Kitty Galore.... sigh.

  5. Oh, M...I'm sorry! I *should* have phrased the question: "When did some schmuck TRY to convince you that Santa wasn't real?" Right?

  6. I know I shouldn't be THIS excited, but I am SO EXCITED to hear that you treat 7am feedings like 3am feedings!!! Every time I tell someone my daughter sleeps til 830-900, they're like omg, how? I say I just put her back to bed. They're like, oh, my kid won't do that! TRAIN THEM! It's do-able! Even when you only have one and have no real idea what you're doing! ;) SO glad to find someone else who believes this...

  7. You are a smart woman, and people who complain about their kids waking up early need to take note! Don't let your kids run the family!

Also, there are some people who participate in 5QF who have some whack answers. Like they grew up in really weird homes and don't know it. Not a lot of them, but some. Don't tell anyone I said that, though.

  8. My mom was the same way when she had the three of us...always said it was her favorite part....always thought she was crazy. Guess you are on her train. LOVE how you have trained your kids to sleep in! SOO smart!!

  9. With kids--sleeping in pajamas in necessary. I'm not awake enough to grab a robe when getting out of bed to go comfort a little person, let alone take it off and hang it back up before stumbling back under the covers. Warm jammies all the way.

  10. From another "au naturale birther"...totoally get the pain but body doing what it needs to! exactly!! And I also get the addiction to babies...and the freezing cold feet...and night owl....did u read mine? its kind of funny!!! :)

  11. Ok, I loved your answers! I can believe that you enjoyed childbirth. I didn't mind most of it, but I had pre-eclampsia and the blood pressure cuff was probably the most painful and annoying part of the whole process, it literally turned my arm purple that is how tight it got!

  12. You are my hero!! I aspire to look at life through your glasses!!! Thank you so much for sharing your outlook with those of us living more mundane lives ;-)

  13. You are hillarious! Ironically my husband really does like my cold feet. :) I think it's funny but as I am cold blooded as well I will take it! :) I am a night owl as well and have taught my kids to sleep in. We get started around 8:30 or 9 to. :)

  16. I love the comment about how Minnesota is not exactly warm...lol. We live in MN as well, I'm an odd one last winter when going to the store and errands I never wore a coat, just jeans and sweatshirt. I had MANY looks and even a few ask me where my coat was. But it was pointless when I still sweated without the coat on!. That said I do have several blankets on the bed so I stay toasty at night, since the hubs sleeps on the sofa most of the time...lol

I have a friend that would probably agree with the baby thing, she had 4 kiddos and all homebirths, her 3rd one she had alone, the midwife didn't make it in time, and had I know sooner I would have drove the hour to be there with her. But it all turned out good.

  17. You seriously should be on TV...cuz you are funnier than the late night show hosts! I always laugh when I visit here.

Have fun shopping at MOA...I have never been there, since I live in Kansas...but maybe someday. Do you like going there?

    Have a great day!

Come here looking for the tutorial? It can be found here:  Halo Braid Tutorial!  Let me know how it goes! I had something in mind to try on Baby Girl's hair the other day...my best bud, Dr. J, did something similar to it on Belle once, and I was trying to replicate it. Instead, I got this: Isn't it pretty?! It didn't take nearly as long as it looks and isn't nearly as intricate as it looks! And...try your best to not slice up the little fingers that are sneaking away pepper strips... (Lemme just inte
