Five Question Friday!! 7/23/10

I wish I could say I'm glad it's the weekend...but, alas, I hafta work. So, really...I'm not all that glad. :(

But, I'm glad for YOU that it's the weekend...unless, of course, YOU hafta work...in which case, I'll be sad for you too. :(

I'm going to be asking your advice soon, on something exciting...so I hope you'll have some wise words and fabulous tips to share...gosh. That sounded kinda greedy. I'm sorry...but I really do need your advice...

I was tempted to vlog today's 5QF...then I decided that you'd probably had enough of me and my wacky MinneSOOOOta accent, so I figured I'd spare you and just give it to you in good old fashioned black and white. Aren't I nice? Being so thoughtful for you? Consider it my pre-payment for the fabulous tips y'all are gonna share with me! ;)

Alright, I'll stop with the smiley dudes, now.

Onto Five Question Friday!

Rules for Five Question Friday: Copy and paste the following questions to your blog post, answer them (like, totally, duh!), then c'mon back to link up! If you don't have a blog, feel free to leave your answers in the comments of this post or any post along the way!

Questions for Friday, July 23rd: (Special thanks to Christy [for inspiration], Kelly, BrittanyCiara, Emily, and Sami [for inspiration] for their question suggestions! Wanna be linked in a future 5QF? Just c'mon over here, to my community, and offer up your best question suggestions!)

1. What were your school colors?

2. What's the best compliment you ever received?

3. Do you buy cheap or expensive toilet paper?

4. Have you ever had a surprise party thrown for you? Or have you had one for someone else?

5. What is one material possession that you "can't live without"?

-------------------------------------------

1. What were your school colors?

My school colors were purple and white (Fight! Fight! Fight!!). Growing up, I wasn't really much into school spirit.

I was pretty much "school spiritless". I hated purple and white, for the most part. Except, for some God forsaken reason, I choose a purple and white prom dress for my senior prom.

Whatevertheheck I was thinking, I'll never know...but I do remember buying it and thinking..."Hmmmm...I wonder if it's weird that I'm buying a dress that is my school colors?"

My children now sport the same purple I loathed as a child...and I've now come to love.

Call it..."Purple Pride", I guess.

Or something.

2. What's the best compliment you ever received?

Usually, the best compliments I get...or, more, the ones that mean the most to me...are the ones that are about my family.

Often times, in church, we'll have an older couple come up to us and tell us "You have such a beautiful family" and then wistfully tell us about their own experiences with their children when they were young.

It's these times, that make me beam with pride. Just the other day in church, I had a "moment".

I noticed an older woman behind us...smiling at our children (while we were most likely frowning at our children...always seems that what we think is not so cute, other people find hilarious...like siblings giving wet willies to one another...). Suddenly, I saw myself in that woman.

Old...my children grown...wistfully watching a young family in church. It actually made me a bit teary...to know that too soon, my children will be grown...struggling with their own kiddos in church.

*wipes eyes* Okay...moving on...

3. Do you buy cheap or expensive toilet paper?

Oh my lands!!!

I am an expensive TP girl all. the. way.

My "bestie"...was a Scott's TP girl...scratch that...IS a Scott's TP girl...and it drove me crazy when she bought TP in college.

My bottom is much too special for that crap.

*Snort* Sorry...I couldn't resist! ;)

I am a Kleenex Cottonelle girl...purple package (there's that dang Purple Pride showing up again!)...and nothing else.

Charmin...too crumbly.

Northern...not soft enough.

Kleenex baby.

And nothing less.

(Hey...that should be the Kleenex saying...dontcha think? "Kleenex baby...and nothing less." Gosh. I'm a marketing genius.)

4. Have you ever had a surprise party thrown for you? Or have you had one for someone else?

Yes...and yes!

The first yes, was my husband "paying me back" for his surprise party!

I threw him a surprise 30th B-Day Party...you know...I think I have his "SURPRISE" on video somewhere! I should try to find it so I can show you just how hilarious he is when he's startled!!

He was suspicious tho...but it was still a great party!

When I turned thirty, he turned the tables on me. Again, I was a bit suspicious, but I didn't want to ruin it for either of us, so I played along!

I WAS surprised, tho, to see friends from work! The Mr. "hacked" into my email account and invited my friends from that...talk about genius! That was fun.

I like surprises.

Especially when it's a party thrown just for me. ;) (Oops, a smiley dude...sorry...)

5. What is one material possession that you "can't live without"?

Wow...hmmmmm...let's see.

"Can't live without"...I'm gonna go with my laptop.

No, no...wait.

I take it back.

Not my final answer.

I'm gonna pick my iPhone. Cuz it can pretty much do everything my laptop can...but it can also call people. And, it has Words with Friends. And Tweetdeck. And a photo of my husband eating a breakfast burrito that pops up everytime he calls me.

Sexy.

Yes...iPhone it is! My one material possession I can't live without!

--------------------------------

Alright...done! Now, it's YOUR turn to link up!

Oh...and have you checked out the CSN giveaway I've got going on? Yup...click that link to enter...it's worth 60 bucks!!

Have a fabulous weekend, my friends!

  1. I love your MinneSOOOOta accent! I think its too cute. My wedding colors ended up being my school colors - how's that for weird?

  2. See, I love that you're Catholic. I don't know how many people would relate to your church story, but I nearly sprayed my coffee out my nose reading it. We are that "young" family struggling with our kids (who are corralled between my husband and I on the floor, taking up a WHOLE pew with half our playroom spilled out of backpacks and cherrios galore scattered across the floor) and getting essentially NOTHING out of the Mass because we're "shhhh!"ing and such while "older" folks smile at us (but usually I think it's that same smile you give people you think are crazy but don't want to offend?) and tell them they've been there and that they think it's lovely we bring the kids. It does. It feels good. Love that.

  3. Our answers to the last question are pretty similar. lol Thanks for hosting!

  4. Did you know that Scotts is actually one of the more expensive brands of toilet paper? Not sure why. You might as well go to the home improvement section, grab some sheets of sand paper, and wipe with that stuff. They are eerily similar. haha! I love Cottonelle too, but, as my 5QF blog points out, it clogs our potty due to an overwiper in the house.

  5. Great answers! Our family is "that" family too in our Congregation. When I think the kids are being too loud or messing with each other, some of our friends say they are so good, sitting so quietly. I think real? Are we talking about the same kids?
    Have a great weekend!

  26. I tear up when I see a couple being loving & romantic, AS SADLY this is not the case in my marriage, and only was in the beginning. BUT...having his mom live with us for 10 years, I can see why.
Not to say hubby doesn't do things that aren't romantic...but to many they would not be thought romantic. EXAMPLE: When I made it through my first Semester at TJU in phila, PA. he greeted me at the train station with small diamond earrings (1/4 K total weight) the intention brought me to tears...but he was actually ripped off, as these earrings are dull, have no clarity or sparkle at all. so I have only worn them a few times. LATER, I tried to get him to go back to the jeweler and make a fuss (Helzburg Diamonds for a warning) he wouldn't do it.

Example 2: I am a paper crafter and was in a 12 month swap for bizarre monthly holidays, and I was looking thru the website well in advance to write down some ideas. It was february, and I was looking at June's and found out my birthday (22) is national chocolate eclair day. I was on the puter he was watching a fishing showe on TV, I mentioned this to him, not expecting him to register that I was speaking to him let alone, retain the info. BUT LO AND BEHOLD...on my birthday several months later he came in with a bakery box, and handed it to me saying happy birthday, when I opened it, it was a Giant chocolate eclair, that said Happy Birthday Susan on it. I was really blown away. He is unique in his own way.

My son recently moved back home bringing a dog and cat with him, his dog Pico ( a mutt terrier) absolutely adores my husband, in the 25+ years we have been together none of our pets ever loved him the way this dog does, and greets him at the end of the work day with such unabashed enthusiasm it brings tears to my eye, FOR HIM.

What a bunch of saps, we women are LOL!

    Susan

  27. We are totally that family in church. During Mass, we spend so much of the time refereeing, that we get almost nothing out of it. BUT...there is always an older person watching us and smiling. The funny thing is, is that I am always wondering at what point that person will stop thinking my kids are cute. Like one tantrom too many, or one screach that was too loud. I feel like my kids are a ticking time bomb at church!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I love the beautiful family compliments, too! I know that it's usually because the other person can't think of anything to say, but I still like it. I worked hard to make this family. Lol.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I don't have an Iphone... I know! *tear* If I did, I wouldn't have had such a dilema answering the last question and coming up with my one and only way to incorporate my three worldly loves.

    It's a hard knock life...

    ReplyDelete
  30. Don't knock the purple it is one of my favorite colors LOL

Thanks for the questions this is one of my favorite meme's!

Come here looking for the tutorial? It can be found here:  Halo Braid Tutorial!  Let me know how it goes! I had something in mind to try on Baby Girl's hair the other day...my best bud, Dr. J, did something similar to it on Belle once, and I was trying to replicate it. Instead, I got this: Isn't it pretty?! It didn't take nearly as long as it looks and isn't nearly as intricate as it looks! Vlog tutorial coming soon...(for those of you waiting, I'm sorry it's taking me so long!)

Halo Braid Tutorial!

How appropriate, "halo braid", no?! ;) Finally, I have this ready for you...I apologize for the delay! This braid looks intricate, but is really quite easy and quick to pull off...the original video (prior to the warp speed braiding...watch the video to see what I mean) was just a bit over 8 minutes long...not too shabby! So, here you go...right in time for you to try it out on your little girl for Easter!

Oh, hold it...wait just a sec (again)...actually, I got this recipe from Melissa...yes, the Melissa of this story ! And this story ...which, well...is the same story, just told two different ways! ;) So, you can thank her...I guess. Well, in any event...prepare your tastebuds to be tantalized! You'll need this: And, this: You'll also need chicken breasts or steak, but since photographing your "main ingredient" is, like, soooo passe, I've left it out. ( Ahem... ) Just keepin ' up with the times, friend. So...slice up those peppers and onions into cute little strips... And...try your best to not slice up the little fingers that are sneaking away pepper strips... (Lemme just inte...
