------------------------------------------------
1. What's on the top of your holiday wish list and why?!
You know...I don't really have anything! I think this may be the first year that I'm not really yearning for anything...well, anything "reasonable" that is.
If we're talking "anything under the sun"...then I'd like a vacation home in the Rockies, a real home on a lake, a private jet, and unending cash to spend. Amen.
Oh, and that new Nikon I've been drooling over to take lot's of photos of all the adventures I'll have at my lake home, my Rockies home, and on my private jet.
But that's all.
2. What is your favorite Christmas gift from the past?
Well, last year, I received "Marlboro Man" for Christmas...that ranks pretty high up there!
And then there was the year I received my "Easy Bake Oven", that was sublime.
However, one year, I was incredibly spoiled by my parents, they bought me everything from Uggs to FloorMates to I can't even remember it all, and I declared it, for all the world to hear, "The best Christmas EVER!!!!"
Which reminds me...for the Christmas after I turned 16, I was expecting (yes, I hate to admit it, but I was...) a car. Afterall, my brother got one for the Christmas after he turned 16, so it was only fair, right?
Well, nothing could convince me that I wasn't getting that car (for the record, the car my brother got was an old Eagle Talon that only had one working door...the passenger side back seat...)...not my parents constant disclaimers that they couldn't afford it, nothing.
So...Christmas morning came, and I woke expecting to find my shiny new (read: rusty old) car in the driveway...only, it wasn't there.
Instead, my parents told me to run downstairs to grab something, and there on the bar was a TV, a VCR, and a stereo...all for yours truly.
And, a few months later I got my car.
I'd say I came pretty good on that deal! ;)
3. If you had life to do over, what would you be when you grow up?
I would be a stay at home mom. One that is always patient and never yells and lets her kids play with Play-Doh and bakes homemade bread and always smells of a mixture of cleaning solution and vanilla.
Yup. That's what I'd be.
"Super Mom".
4. When do you put up your tree?
The weekend after Thanksgiving is our tree putting upper weekend. Come hell or highwater, that is when we do it.
The plague, Dengue fever, work schedules, earthquakes, tsunamis...nothing can get in the way.
In fact, last weekend I was supposed to work...we can "request" to be "on-call" and if it's not too busy, they'll let us stay home. Turns out, I was a big slacker and "requested" both Saturday and Sunday...and got it!
So, I had an awesome weekend with my family...
And, we got our tree set up.
Unhurried...unrushed...unencumbered by anything.
Except for this whole shoulder thing...I'll have to tell you about it sometime. ;)
5. What is your favorite Holiday?
"Ain't no doubt about it..." CHRISTMAS!!!!
A couple of years ago, I got so caught up in the "materialism" of Christmas that I totally lost sight of the meaning. I was going through the motions. Spending money like I had Steve Jobs' income.
When it was over, I realized..."Nope. No more." And I have made a very concerted effort to remember "the reason for the season"...our sweet baby Jesus. I've come to realize that Christmas is a whole lot more fun when you remember the reason we celebrate!
So, each year I try to keep my feet on the floor and my appreciate everything. The songs, the memories, the anticipation, AND the hustle and bustle...but not to get caught up in it.
In fact, this year...my dear, sweet husband has been a bit of a Scrooge. He works with farmers and is a sales rep for a large seed company, so his busy times of the year are spring planting (spring is gorgeous in MinneSOOOta), fall harvest (holy beautifulness in our neck of the woods), and Christmas, which is a sales deadline.
Busy for the Mr. = a crabby Mr.
I got a little dramatic with him the other day, and I looked him deep in the eye...right into his very soul, and I pointed my finger right to the tip of his nose and proclaimed, "YOU...are killing my Christmas spirit."
I think he had to try very, very hard not to laugh.
LONG LIVE MY CHRISTMAS SPIRIT!!! ;)
-------------------------------------------
Okay, you heard what I had to say, now...what are YOUR answers?
I LOVE how you told your husband about killin' that Spirit!! I've done that before, but I have a big Scrooge, so I just make up for it! :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome answers to your questions!!
I'm a work at home mom and I do bake bread every other day for my boys...but I do not smell of vanilla and I frequently loose my temper. Sigh. So close (yet so far away) to super mom status.
ReplyDeleteLove your comments! Mr. Crabby - I have one of those right now too. He's got the week of Christmas off for the first time in 13 years - so, I'm SO excited. He'll come around - just keep talking to is soul. :-)
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh at your "freaking cold" weather comment. Minus two degrees! Here it can get -30 and with the wind chill it feels like -40.
ReplyDeleteI also would love to be "supermom". I can't bake bread to save my life, but when my son is old enough I'll try to make up for it by making play dough.
Awww...somebody wrote that their dream job was to be a SAHM. (I do volunteer work, but I'm a SAHM and it doesn't feel like anybody wants to do what I do.)
ReplyDeleteI suppose working moms automatically think "SAHM" when it comes to that question, and SAHMs think "A CAREER"...I wonder if most answers to this question will play out that way...interesting...
I love your answer to the last question. Great answer!
Hahaha! My hubby would have just laughed at me too!
ReplyDeleteGood for you for keeping your feet on the ground at Christmas time. It's easy to get caught up in all of it. Have a good weekend! :-)
Just MINUS TWO degrees!?! We had MINUS TEN last night!! That's VERY cold for us! We don't usually get any snow until AFTER Christmas! NEVER in NOVEMBER!!!... but oh no! NOT this year!! I've been off work all week cos the school's are off! The country is grinding to a halt! :(
ReplyDeleteAnyways, writing my 5QF post cheered me up somewhat!! As did reading your answers!! :) You always make me LOL!!
I was especially impressed by your yearning for a Rocky Mountain retreat!! That sounds fab!! Can I come visit!!? :)
Have a great weekend! I hope your shoulder and throat feel better and that the Mister gives you a well-deserved lie-in!!..
:)
