1. What's your favorite childhood snack that you still eat as an adult?

Well, I cheated. I looked at Sandy's post first and have to agree with her answer of s'mores. See...Mr. Wonderful is the BEST s'more maker.

Seriously. You don't believe me, I can tell...I wish I could send you all one of his s'mores because OH EM GEE. I didn't even used to like s'mores, until I had one of his.

Funny...I'll bet while he was growing up, that he didn't even know he had these super s'more making skillz. He would've been the most popular dude in school.

In. CREDIBLE.

2. What food will you not eat the low fat version of?

Honestly, pretty much everything. But hands down, no fat-free/low fat salad dressing. When my mama was doing the Atkins diet she learned that the fat-free versions of food are LOADED with carbs to make them taste better.

Now, I love carbs...but in the form of potatoes or bread or pasta, so don't get me wrong, but...I'd rather take my chances with fat than carbs.

Wait. Does that even make any sense?!

Nevermind.

3. What's your favorite way to cool off during the summer?

At the lake.

My favorite thing in the whole world is to get super hot, then go out in the middle of a lake and jump in.

That second when your head goes under and your world is suddenly dark and quiet and cool? Awesome.

I get a little freaked about giant fish waiting to gobble me up, so I usually send one of my kids in first to scare away the giant fish for me.

What? You think I'm kidding?
4. What's your favorite summer read?

You know...nothing, really. I used to love a good Jodi Picoult book, but they all sort of became the same.

And I love Sofie Kinsella...but I've gotten away from reading...until the Hunger Games and Fifty Shades series and now, seriously, what on earth will I ever read that could top those?

Nothing.

So instead, I check Twitter. Hey, this is crazy...I just met you, here's my Twitter handle, so tweet me maybe? @5crookedhalos

Sorry. Cheesy, I know.
5. What are you doing to stay cool in this awful heat?

Don't laugh...

We don't have air conditioning. So, when it gets really awful, I head to the store with the kids and shop. Or the mall. Or my parents.

Usually the nights are cool enough that it isn't too unbearable except for a few times a year.

And, whenever possible, I love to be near water. Preferable lake. But river or pool will do too!

Phew! Finished just in time to head out! Adios!!

  1. It's a deal. :)

We're kind of celebrating Sunday through Wednesday, since that's when we'll be on vacation. :)

  2. I agree- it's the heat. I start every day as Mary Poppins, and end up as Cruella De'Ville. Sigh...someday I'll have a perfect mom day....then I'll wake up and realize it was all a dream. :)

Totally understandable about the vacation! (While, I'll admit I've been CRYING about it all morning...j/k!) Sigh. Next year, maybe?

  3. We don't have any 4th of July plans yet, but I'm sure we'll do some red, white, and blue dishes for Sunday dinner at my parents' house this week and have something fun again on Wednesday.

  4. I messed up on the linky and realized it as soon as I hit the send. The first link isn't directed to the blog post. Sorry about that.

Come here looking for the tutorial? It can be found here:  Halo Braid Tutorial!  Let me know how it goes! I had something in mind to try on Baby Girl's hair the other day...my best bud, Dr. J, did something similar to it on Belle once, and I was trying to replicate it. Instead, I got this: Isn't it pretty?! It didn't take nearly as long as it looks and isn't nearly as intricate as it looks! Vlog tutorial coming soon...(for those of you waiting, I'm sorry it's taking me so long!)

Halo Braid Tutorial!

How appropriate, "halo braid", no?! ;) Finally, I have this ready for you...I apologize for the delay! This braid looks intricate, but is really quite easy and quick to pull off...the original video (prior to the warp speed braiding...watch the video to see what I mean) was just a bit over 8 minutes long...not too shabby! So, here you go...right in time for you to try it out on your little girl for Easter!

Oh, hold it...wait just a sec (again)...actually, I got this recipe from Melissa...yes, the Melissa of this story ! And this story ...which, well...is the same story, just told two different ways! ;) So, you can thank her...I guess. Well, in any event...prepare your tastebuds to be tantalized! You'll need this: And, this: You'll also need chicken breasts or steak, but since photographing your "main ingredient" is, like, soooo passe, I've left it out. ( Ahem... ) Just keepin ' up with the times, friend. So...slice up those peppers and onions into cute little strips... And...try your best to not slice up the little fingers that are sneaking away pepper strips... (Lemme just inte...
