Five Question Friday!! 9/7/12

Update...condiment answer below!! (Sorry I was late...)

I can not believe it is September and we already have a week (well, almost) of school under our belts. It seems as though the start of school is like riding a all comes back fairly easily.

We've been decent (not as good as I'd hoped, but not as bad as I'd feared!) about consistent bedtimes, including Baby (which is a huge improvement) and it means the Mr. and I actually have some evening time together! I like that guy. Which is the opposite of "I hate dat guy" that movie. to work I go this morning. I've been off for a whole week and it has been wonderful. So thankful for the "fluke" of getting this first week of school off!

Let's get started with 5QF...

1. What is your favorite fall family tradition?

2. If money weren't an issue, how many kids would you have?

3. If you were to get a tattoo, what would it be and where would you put it?

4. What condiment is a must in your house?

5. How did your spouse/fiance propose?

1. What is your favorite fall family tradition?
You know...I'm not sure that we have any fall family traditions! That's terrible. I must start one immediately.

Yeah. No apple orchards (that would be fun), an occasional pumpkin patch, walks in the woods...but no "traditions". That is tragic.

Suggestions, please.

2. If money weren't an issue, how many kids would you have?

Once upon a time, I didn't think kids were all that expensive. The first one, sure, with the crib and the car seat and the stroller and the this and the that...but then after that? Meh. Everything spendy is reusable.

But then, my kids got into school. Particularly the oldest one who comes home with several requirements for checks of varying denominations to be written out. And the sports. And the sports equipment.

Yeah, they are expensive. But would that change the number of kids I'd have? I'm not sure that it would. Money isn't so much an issue as time and attention (and patience) are.

I feel good at 5. I am a baby nut, so I (frequently) get the urge to hold and nurse and birth a baby, but it usually passes quickly. answer the question...I guess 5. Because it just feels right for us!

3. If you were to get a tattoo, what would it be and where would you put it? this a "have to" question? 'Cuz I'm pretty sure, barring any unforeseen mid-life crisis, that I'll never get a tattoo. Just not something that appeals to me.

BUT...if I HAD to get a tattoo...I would do something I saw a classmate of mine do. She had the first initial of her kids' first names made into a footprint. Let me see if I can hock it off FaceBook...nope, can't find it.

Sorry it took me so long, didja miss me?

Anyway, it was very cute, hard to explain, but it was one that made me think, "Yeah, I'd do that...if I HAD to." ;)

4. What condiment is a must in your house?

Duh. Let's see how well you all know me. What is my #1 must have condiment?

I'll put my answer in here tonight... :)

Update: So...I meant to post this Friday night, and now here it is Sunday night and I'm just getting to it. Sorry 'bout that.

Anyway, many of you guessed correctly, but it was Dawn that nailed it on the head with "Heinz ketchup"! Of course, Dawn has an unfair advantage, in that she's a "real life" friend and has witnessed, first hand, my need for Heinz ketchup!

All other condiments tie for 2nd place. I like my condiments. Except for horseradish. Horseradish comes in dead last in my book. Grody.

5. How did your spouse/fiance propose?

Very creative. So, story goes that at the ripe old age of 23 I felt like I was getting old. The Mr. and I had been dating for 2 1/2 years, I knew he was the one and I was tired of, I told him "Dude, it's time to shit or get off the pot." (Okay, maybe not exactly my words, but close...) and gave him an ultimatum.

To which, in true Mr. Wonderful form, he asked for a one day extension (right off the bat) just because he could. I granted him that extension and on that final day, I was walking out of work with a friend and kicking myself for ever launching the stupid ultimatum anyway.

She asked what I would do if he didn't propose that day, I responded, quite certain that he WASN'T going to propose, that I didn't know...I loved him and I didn't want to break up with him.

I went home, did the old "exchange" with the Pal (it was his dad's night) and fell asleep on my couch, waiting for my beloved to come visit. He had called earlier and told me he "crashed" his of course, the caring, nurturing nurse in me was worried about him.

He assured me that he "thought" he was okay, but his hand was pretty banged up and "no" he didn't go to the doctor.

He arrives, I wake up, and I see his hand wrapped in gauze. I spring up, go into "ohmigosh, are you okay? Let me see!!" and I start to unwrap the...BLOODY...gauze, when suddenly, he fumbles a bit, drops to his knee and asks me to be his wife. (This is terrible...I don't remember his exact words! Gah. I'm a horrible girl.)

I get teary, say some "Oh my God"s, and "YES!! Of course!!!" and he slides the (extremely too large) ring onto my finger! We hug and kiss and he tells me he has a whole night planned and we go to my parents, who already knew because my husband is extremely chivalrous and asked my dad for his blessing, then his parents, then to the restaurant where we had our first date where he had a dozen roses waiting with this card:

"I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you! I love you."

Because of all the visits we made prior to dinner, we were late for our reservation and the staff said they were beginning to wonder if maybe I had turned him down!

As if.

I love that man. He is kind and generous and loving and incredibly handsome and strong and smart and involved and he...well, I can't talk about that here. :)

Life is good.

I hope you all have a good weekend! I'll be back later tonight to update my condiment!

  1. hot sauce, i am going to have to dig through and find out what it is now

  2. what a great proposal story.

  3. I'm with you on the tattoo. Don't have one, don't want one, don't see the point, lol. I guess I'm not any fun that way.

  4. Loved the proposal story. I bet the condiment is ketchup.

  5. I realized with your first question that I need to come up with fall family traditions myself! This will be the year!

So did your husband actually bang up his hand? If he did, that's pretty hilarious. If he made it "appear" that way, it's just as hilarious and very mischievous!

My husband asked my dad for my hand a day or two before he proposed as well. He had to be so sneaky about it because we lived an hour and half away from my parents!

  6. Hey Mama M, I just zipped you off an email regarding your Five Question Friday button and just now I found it on your sidebar. Silly me, right? Okay, I now have it on my More Blog Hops page. I don't know if I'll get a chance to play along this week & I know it's been a very long time since I have, but I'm trying to get back on track with some of my bloggy friends participating in their memes. Anyhow. sorry for my screwy brain not working so well today. lol Have a marvelous weekend!

  7. If you find that photo of the tattoo, please post it? It does sound cool, although I can't see me ever getting a tattoo either!

Without looking it up, wasn't it ketchup? Or it could have been the hot sauce too. Something red.

  8. Ketchup, mustard, mayo...
Husband proposed at the cafe where we had our first date :)

  9. Not just ketchup - Heinz ketchup.

It didn't take nearly as long as it looks and isn't nearly as intricate as it looks! Vlog tutorial coming soon...(for those of you waiting, I'm sorry it's taking me so long!)

And...try your best to not slice up the little fingers that are sneaking away pepper strips...
