Ewwwww!

I have another irrational fear that I haven't yet revealed to you...'cept I don't think this one is irrational at all!

When we were tucking E.W. in last night, I was asking him about his friends at school..."John and Avery and...MOM!!! Kaylie had to go home 'cuz they checked our hair and then she was sick!!!"

Ugh.

Why is it, when you hear about lice, you immediately get all itchy and creepy crawly? So, I checked his backpack, and sure enough, there was the dreaded note:

"We are notifying you that a case of head lice has been confirmed in your child's classroom."

Lemme just say it, "EEEEWWWWWWW!!!!!"

Can I just dip him in lye and prevent lice? Certainly there's gotta be something to wash him with to prevent it? We've got some wasp spray left over from our recent invasion...think that would work to keep those nits away?

Blech.

  2. Ugh!!! This totally is the truth about feeling itchy just thinking about it!

And...what can you do? especially when the kids all are right next to each other in lines, desks, or wherever they are at, and their cubbies full of sweaters, hats, etc are next to each other!

Hoping there's not any "lice-leaping" going on yesterday!

    Blessings & Aloha!

  5. lice are attracted to clean hair, not that I am saying to not wash your kids hair, if you put a little hairspray in their hair your child is less likely to get lice.

  6. I have heard that Tea Tree shampoo helps prevent lice...I can't attest to this, but it's worth a try! I have a bottle of it in my hall closet just in case we hear of any reports as you did.

I have survived head lice - not me personally, but my boys. A few years ago my oldest got it from baseball helmets...and of course passed it on to his little bro. I thankfully didn't get it, but it was AWEFUL! I pray you don't get it at your house!

  8. Prevention is possible! Rosemary Repel Leave-in Conditioning Spray - use it every morning before school. It has rosemary, tea tree, citronella in it - all these things that this company proved helps to keep lice away. you can get it online at www.fairytaleshaircare.com. We've avoided lice for years with it.

  9. Rosie O'Donnell had some preventative shampoo products on her program when she was looking for products for her children's hair. The shampoo creater gave her some. She used it and being impressed, she had it on her program.

http://www.contactmusic.com/photos.nsf/main/rosie_odonnell_5085912 I think you can purchase the products at this URL. Evidently these products prevent the lice from ever getting in. Might be worth it to use during the school year especially.

    Hope this helps.

  10. LOL I feel ya. I fight this every year and with 3 kids in school it seems like they get it one right after the other. I swear I wish I could send them to school with a plastic bag around their heads lol.
I can tell you though if you wash their hair in lavender or coconut shampoo those are great deterrents for lice. We have been doing that for 2 years now after the doctor told us about it and so far so good.
Have a great rest of the week

Come here looking for the tutorial? It can be found here:  Halo Braid Tutorial!  Let me know how it goes! I had something in mind to try on Baby Girl's hair the other day...my best bud, Dr. J, did something similar to it on Belle once, and I was trying to replicate it. Instead, I got this: Isn't it pretty?! It didn't take nearly as long as it looks and isn't nearly as intricate as it looks!
