In the Kitchen with Gram...Stuffing and Gravy!

Holy moly...if there's anything I look forward to most in the Thanksgiving meal, it's my Gram's stuffing. It is like a meal in itself! And, in order to make the stuffing, you need to also make the dressing so it's BONUS DAY today! You get two recipes for one post! Aren't we kind? I know. Okay, let's get started...gravy first! First thing in the morning, on Thanksgiving day, you know, whenever you roll out of bed, toss the giblets and turkey neck and veggies with a bunch of water  on the stove. This baby's gonna simmer all dang day, so make sure to keep an eye on it and add water frequently! Add salt: And pepper: And remember, you'll need to taste at the end because of all the adding water (and removing broth...which we'll talk about in a bit) you'll be doing! You may need to adjust the seasoning! When the turkey comes out of the oven and before you cover it, "steal" the juices from the turkey roaster (with a b...

Thursday Night 5QF Sneak Peek!

Seriously. Something is wrong with me...I just had to tear myself away from cleaning to do the sneak peek! Someone call 911, this appears to be a medical emergency. Well, before the paramedics arrive, I'll get the questions up for y'all! So, story goes that I promised a "birth" related 5QF (per the request of @gasfamily ) after there was a Twitter frenzy when @ninjalindsay recently delivered her baby boy...complete with frequent Twitter updates from #ninjababy's aunt, @amy_mcmommy . Now today, I begged for 5QF questions and then realized that Lady Gas offered up 5 birth related questions sooooooo, without further ado, here they are, along with a bonus question from me! Welcome to Five Question Friday!! You've come to the right place if you want a fun, easy post or if you've suddenly discovered your muses are too busy reminiscing about their childbirthing experiences to be bothered by you. You Guys...

I'm almost too excited to say it but, in the morning? We get our cabinets! The Bathroom Remodel is actually going somewhere! For the LONGEST time, it looked like this, remember? (Looking in from the hallway...sink to right, linen closet to left tub/shower room dead ahead.) Oh...you don't? That's right, because you weren't LIVING IT. 7 people and down one full bath? Lord, how did we make it???? (Looking in toward hallway...WOW!) And this is what it looked like BEFORE before. Ugh, the 1970's had the worst design choices ever. Anyway...we're painting tonight. Nothing like a looming deadline of new cabinetry being installed and a person not wanting to worry about getting paint on said new cabinetry to make one get up and go! (To left of hallway view...where the linen closets will go!) Here's what was previously in that vast space to the left (not into the darkness)...floor to ceiling ugliness. Again...1970's why? WHY??? ...

Love.

Sigh...so much to blog about, so little time. (And no, I won't mention last night...you're welcome for that!) ;) My nephew. Sweet Baby C. I can't tell you how long I've wanted to kiss and snuggle and nuzzle sweet baby necks and smell sweet baby heads. I can't do that at work...sometimes, I truly have to restrain myself and every once in a while I sneak in a quick sniff...but to have a baby that I can snuggle? Love. Pure, blissful, amazing love. And, he's incredibly adorable to boot. Seriously? Just look at him!

In the Kitchen with Gram...Turkey!

And, what this should really read is "The ONLY way to do a Turkey!"...for real. For several years now, my Gram has brined her turkey. I clearly remember the first time we had her brined turkey...*cue swirly foggy flashback photo*...The year was 2007 (or something), the day was dark and stormy (I always feel the need to add dark and stormy) and my stomach was rumbly. Okay, anyway...one taste of that turkey and my tastebuds rejoiced. Then, to hear how it was cooked? It sealed the deal. No more needed to wake at dawn to put the turkey in the oven, this guy roasts in less that 2 hours. Yes, you heard me right. You can have your turkey AND sleep in! I think it cooks faster because of something or other to do with the brine and the temperature it's cooked at...be warned, this turkey is so juicy you'll wonder if you've cooked it enough. ('Cuz we're all accustomed to dry turkey, right?!) A quick check with a meat thermometer to verify you're turkey h...
