They Did It!

So, right after this post, we headed down to the "big city" to participate in a tournament with Dubya's travel baseball team...and guess what? They took first place!! Yay!!!! And guess what else? Now we get to commit to ANOTHER full weekend of baseball. Half of me is "yaying" about this while the other half of me is "boo hissing" about this. What I'm trying to keep in mind, is that this IS family time. It is what we make of it, right? I mean, sure, we're not at home all together, but we ARE together...and we usually try to do something fun as a family while we're at these tournaments. For example, this weekend we hit Minnehaha Falls...a cool little "urban" park with a waterfall that is absolutely ROARING currently.  It recently made the news because the water is actually "backing up" and causing flooding above the falls. The park has these cool little bikes that you can just hop on and tool around t...

Today's the Day...

Eeeeek!! Guys? Today's the day. The day my kiddo's team plays for section champs and a place in the state tournament! Good gracious. I'm so nervous or them ...I can't imagine how THEY feel! Our team was the #2 seed in our section and our rivals were the #1 seed. We had each beaten each other and then we met up in the section playoffs...both of us undefeated. Clearly, someone had to lose... And it was us. :( BUT...we won last night, so we're still in it!  Today's game will be tough...we can definitely beat this team (we have) but they're good. I think it'll come down to the "mind game"...whoever gets the first run and gets some momentum going is gonna take it. Here's the catch: Because the other team hasn't lost yet, if we win the first game (I mean...WHEN we win the first game) we will have to play an extra game (and win it) to get to state! Nerves abound. My nails are picked down to nothing. Wish us luck!!! ...

Let the Games begin!

*SQUEEEEEEE!!!!!* It starts today...the State Tournament for my son's baseball team! I. am. excited!!! Our boys worked hard and played well to get to where they are! Imma let you in on a little secret. Don't tell the other teams, m'kay? Here it is: Boy can bunt. And the boy's got speed. I like to think he got that from me. :) (Dad, stop laughing.) Okay, well...maybe not. His mama's got nothing to show for in the athletic department. Now, if we were talkin' brains? Okay, well...scratch that too... Good looks? Mmmm, well...how 'bout we just stop talking about what it is that he got from me. Prolly better that way. We were undefeated going into the championship game. I begged and pleaded and bartered and sweet talked my way into finding someone to work for me the night of the champioship game, and guess what? It worked! But, guess what else? I forgot my camera. BOO!! Anyway, they lost. (Boo!! Hiss!!) HOWEVER, it is a double elimina...

First Game of the Season!!

Last Thursday, "He who will be the Next Joe Mauer " (aka "The Pal") (oh, and sorry Joe [you know, in case Joe reads my blog]...better watch out for this kid...he'll be vying for your position in about 5 years...better watch yer back, Joe.) had his first baseball game of the season...let's just say that our household has been getting very anxious for the start of baseball season! Baseball season is the best. Warm weather, outside games, not stuck in a stuffy, sweaty, musty gymnasium with my 4 rambunctious, grimy, restless, hungry kids...yeah, baseball rocks. Only thing was, I had to work Thursday evening for a bit...so I only got to watch about an hour of the Pal's game. ("Watch" being used very loosely here, as I was back and forth between the playground about 80 gazillion times...) I got a call at work that night (and this fact totally makes me smile...that my boy calls me to tell me something important!)...it went something like this: "H...
