My Girl and Her (Great) Gram

With all the snow/cold days that we've had, the schools have resorted to doing some creative shuffling of the schedule...which left me working on a day my Baby Girl had off from school.

This day also happened to be my amazing Gram's birthday (her 82nd!)...good golly do I love that woman. I'm really not sure what I would do without her. (I love you Gram!!) Anyway, I was in need of someone to watch my sweet girl and I ran it past Gram and Gramp, who said they'd be delighted for Baby Girl to hang with them for the day!

The thought of my girl spending the whole day at grandma and grandpa's brought with it a surge of sweet memories from my childhood...Saturdays spent at their house after CCD, advent calendars filled with treats, "boken oken" eggs (broken yolks), coffee and graham crackers, love, laughter...ahhhhhhh, here I am, walking down memory lane again! Such warm, loving memories of those days.

Gram had it all planned out for my girl...they'd take her with them to coffee, then home to bake a birthday cake for Gram that my girl could decorate all on her own. The day was deemed an enormous success and the cake? Well, take a peek:

Apparently at one point the cake was looking quite cute...but my babe must've been following the "if some is good then more is better!!" rule and when she was done she stood back, took a good look and said, "that doesn't look too good"!! Gram dissolved into laughter!

Oh, how I wish I could've been there to hear it! She still gets the giggles when she talks about it!

I can't even begin to tell you how grateful I am that my kiddos are going to have such fond memories of their GREAT-grandparents! How many kids "these days" have even met their great-grandparents, much less been able to forge relationships and make memories with them?

Warms my heart.

Happy belated Birthday to the most amazing Gram in the whole world...we are so blessed to have you as ours!! We love you, Gram!

  1. Your kiddos are definitely lucky! My great-grandparents all passed away long before I was ever thought of, but I have wonderful memories with my grandparents.

  2. I too am thankful that my children have had the privilege to know their great grandmas. Only one is left now and my kids adore her. It is a special relationship for sure.

Come here looking for the tutorial? It can be found here:  Halo Braid Tutorial!  Let me know how it goes! I had something in mind to try on Baby Girl's hair the other day...my best bud, Dr. J, did something similar to it on Belle once, and I was trying to replicate it. Instead, I got this: Isn't it pretty?! It didn't take nearly as long as it looks and isn't nearly as intricate as it looks! Vlog tutorial coming soon...(for those of you waiting, I'm sorry it's taking me so long!)

Halo Braid Tutorial!

How appropriate, "halo braid", no?! ;) Finally, I have this ready for you...I apologize for the delay! This braid looks intricate, but is really quite easy and quick to pull off...the original video (prior to the warp speed braiding...watch the video to see what I mean) was just a bit over 8 minutes long...not too shabby! So, here you go...right in time for you to try it out on your little girl for Easter!

Oh, hold it...wait just a sec (again)...actually, I got this recipe from Melissa...yes, the Melissa of this story ! And this story ...which, well...is the same story, just told two different ways! ;) So, you can thank her...I guess. Well, in any event...prepare your tastebuds to be tantalized! You'll need this: And, this: You'll also need chicken breasts or steak, but since photographing your "main ingredient" is, like, soooo passe, I've left it out. ( Ahem... ) Just keepin ' up with the times, friend. So...slice up those peppers and onions into cute little strips... And...try your best to not slice up the little fingers that are sneaking away pepper strips... (Lemme just inte...
