Five Question Friday! 6/18/10

Holy smokes! I hear MinneSOOOOta made national news last night? Tornadoes popping up all over, severe storms...craziness.

I was working and we had a "Code Black", which should really be called "Code No Privacy" 'cuz everyone gets carted out into the halls to avoid flying glass should the windows get blown out. In the middle of our "Code Black" the sun came out.

Weird. Hard to convince people to stay in the hall when there's blue sky and sunshine outside! Anywho, the worst weather was to our north...so bad, in fact, that a northern hospital transferred some of their OB patients to us to open rooms up for their overflowing ER. Wild.

Well...while the weather turns from dangerous to glorious, I will be at work. Dreaming of sunshine outside...welcoming brand new, little rays of sunshine inside! So, make sure you enjoy the weather for me, 'kay?

Now...onto business!

Rules for Five Question Friday: Copy and paste the following questions to your blog post, answer them, then c'mon back to link up! I would be thrilled if you'd link back to me, Mama M., in your post!

If you don't have a blog, but think the questions are pretty fun and want to join in, feel free to leave your answers in the comments of this blog or any blog along the blog hop path!

Questions for Friday, June 18th: (Special thanks to Danielle, Sara, Pam, Linds, and Brittany Ciara for their question suggestions! If YOU want to be linked in a future 5QF, c'mon over tomy community and offer up your bestest, goofiest, seriousest, or wackiest questions!)

1. What is your favorite thing about summertime?

2. What is your ideal retirement location (if money didn't matter)?

3. Do you live in the same town you grew up in?

4. What nervous habit did you have as a child that you kicked to the curb before becoming an adult?

5. What is the most embarrassing thing that happened to you while on the job?

------------------------------------

1. What is your favorite thing about summertime?

EVERYTHING!!! I love summer.

I LIVE for summer. (I think I say the same thing about Christmas...) Swimming, hot weather, Mike's Cranberry Lemonade, bonfires, sunshine, tanlines, flipflops, dirty kids, growing gardens, watermelon, water balloons, parades...

I could go on and on.

If I had to choose just one thing...it would be warm weather. Er...sunshine. Wait...lemme combine that:

Warm, sunny days. THAT is what I love most about summer! And, summer doesn't last nearly long enough 'round these parts. :(

2. What is your ideal retirement location (if money didn't matter)?

Weelllll...since money is no matter...I would say anywhere in the South where I could have all of my family close by. I'd just winter there...'cuz there really isn't anything better than a MinneSOOOta summer. Honest to Pete...I'm convinced that our ancestors came breezin' through here right about this time of year.

Cool breezes, warm air, beautiful lakes, and green, green, green everywhere!! I know that NO ONE is crazy enough to come here in the dead of winter and think, "Dang!! Let's set up camp here and start our lineage!"

Nope. That could never, ever, ever happen...'cuz winter is evil. Pure, cold evil.

Whoa. Hello digression...nice to meet you. Oh...wait...we've met before (a few bazillion times.).

Getting back on track...I would choose somewhere near water. I hear Florida is awfully humid in the summer, but, I would probably choose Florida. Think of all the fun we would have with the grandkids...money is no matter, so of course our kids and grandkids would be there with us!

Disney, Sea World, beachin' it, Busch Gardens...we'd do it all. It would be like one long vacation.

Awwww...man! Now I wanna retire. Can I retire? Please? I wanna retire to Florida right now, while I'm still young and spry and fun!

Hey...that reminds me of this silly post!

3. Do you live in the same town you grew up in?

Yupper!

I have always and forever been a home body. As a kid, I would rather have had friends at my house, than go to anyone else's house.

When I graduated from High School, I went to college far, far away. So far away, in fact, that it took a whopping 30 minutes to get there.

Then, I graduated from college, moved myself and my little guy right back where we started. Married my man (who is also from my hometown) and started this little thing we call "a family".

And I wouldn't have it any other way.
4. What nervous habit did you have as a child that you kicked to the curb before becoming an adult?

Right around puberty...I developed this weird habit.

We had two indoor cats. I can't say that I ever really liked them. It was more of a "tolerance" thing...I tolerated them. They couldn't care less if I lived or died. (What is it with cats and their indifference to...well...everthing?!!)

But then...then I started to get all those hormones coursing through my body and...well, I think I went crazy.

If the cat rubbed up against me...or I touched it...I immediately needed to wash my hands. Like, IMMEDIATELY!!! "Gah!!! Get these nasty cat germs off me, they lick their butt holes for pete's sake!!!!!!!!!!!"

I was totally not a dramatic teenager. Nope. Not. At. All.

Ahem...

Hmmmm...now that I think about it...I think I still harbor some of those crazies today (read the answer to #5). Yikes.

That's a little frightening.

5. What is the most embarrassing thing that happened to you while on the job?

Oh my word. Didn't have to think about this for more than a millesecond.

Essentially, I've had two jobs. My current career and my high school, grocery store cashier job. (Remember? I don't count the whole "working for my dad bit". I'd just prefer to forget it. Why do you keep bringing it up? Sheesh...)

At my first job...the grocery store one...I was "checking people out"! *snort* Ha! That's why I loved that job so much...I got to say, "can I check you out?" *giggle*

Anywho...I was chit chatting with a customer, when swallowed wrong.

And...when I say "I swallowed wrong"...I mean "I think I asyphyxiated myself"...I'm surprised I didn't die. Good thing it was just spit.

So, where were we? Oh, yeah...I swallowed wrong...and, being the teenager I was, I was emabarrassed. I was coughing and coughing and trying to compose myself and coughing and coughing and getting hot and sweaty and red in the face and coughing and coughing and trying to catch my breath.

Basically, I forced myself to quit coughing. Only...I don't think my bronchioles agreed, 'cuz I turned back to talk to my customer, opened my mouth to take a breath of air and...

"SQQQQUUUUUUUEEEEEAAAAKKKKKKK!" Out came this high pitched, narrowed airway, air barely getting through squeal.

You shoulda seen the look on their face.

And then I died. For sure.

If it wasn't the lack of oxygen that killed me...it was embarrassment.

  2. Take it from me, Florida is death in the summer. And summer lasts from like april to october. There is at least a 30% chance of rain every single day (although usually more like 50-60 and sometimes even 100%) so even though the temps are only in the 90s, the humidity makes it sooooooooo much worse. Even in the morning when the temps are lower and you would imagine that going outside might be kind of nice, add that super sticky humidity and forget about it. And the rain isn't normal rain, we're talking severe thunderstorms. Daily. But in the winter, it's awfully nice here, lol

Come here looking for the tutorial? It can be found here:  Halo Braid Tutorial!  Let me know how it goes! I had something in mind to try on Baby Girl's hair the other day...my best bud, Dr. J, did something similar to it on Belle once, and I was trying to replicate it. Instead, I got this: Isn't it pretty?! It didn't take nearly as long as it looks and isn't nearly as intricate as it looks! Vlog tutorial coming soon...(for those of you waiting, I'm sorry it's taking me so long!)

Halo Braid Tutorial!

How appropriate, "halo braid", no?! ;) Finally, I have this ready for you...I apologize for the delay! This braid looks intricate, but is really quite easy and quick to pull off...the original video (prior to the warp speed braiding...watch the video to see what I mean) was just a bit over 8 minutes long...not too shabby! So, here you go...right in time for you to try it out on your little girl for Easter!

Crock-Pot Fajitas

You! Yes, YOU!! You must stop whatevertheheck it is that you are doing, and make this recipe. Right now. Tonight. Well...wait. You should probably finish reading this post first...you know...so you know how to make it... But then...STOP! STOP everything, make this, and thank me later! Oh, hold it...wait just a sec (again)...actually, I got this recipe from Melissa...yes, the Melissa of this story ! And this story ...which, well...is the same story, just told two different ways! ;) So, you can thank her...I guess. Well, in any event...prepare your tastebuds to be tantalized! You'll need this: And, this: You'll also need chicken breasts or steak, but since photographing your "main ingredient" is, like, soooo passe, I've left it out. ( Ahem... ) Just keepin ' up with the times, friend. So...slice up those peppers and onions into cute little strips... And...try your best to not slice up the little fingers that are sneaking away pepper strips... (Lemme just inte
