Five Question Friday! 12/10/10

I've started this post once already...then my small talk led me astray and I realized that I needed an entire post for what I was rambling on about.

My brain works in really weird ways and jumps track so often that I...oh my gosh, tracks. Trains. Trains = gifts = I need to go shopping. (See...brain. Weird. Sorry.)

Oh dear...did you miss me? I just had to run off quick, 'cuz something about that last sentence reminded me that our dear old Elf on the Shelf needed to move. (Again. See? Brain. Weird. Sorry.)

Alright...before my brain can possibly jump tracks again, let's get this Five Question Friday show going!!

Welcome to 5QF!! The most fabulous blog carnival ever. (Not that I'm biased, or anything.)

Join in!! You'll have a blast...it's fun and easy!

Rules for Five Question Friday: Copy and paste the following questions to your blog post. Answer them, then watch for the linky post to appear tomorrow morning and link up!

1. Do you open presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?

2. What is your favorite Christmas cookie (or candy)?

3. What's the worst Christmas gift you've ever received?

4. Christmas song that you love?

5. How many trees do you put up?
---------------------------------------------------

1. Do you open presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?

Technically, both. Christmas Eve is our "marathon" celebration...where we wake up, open presents as a family, get bazillions of phone calls from any one of my brothers/mom/dad to hurry up and get to their house so we can continue the marathon of gift opening, food eating, good times.

Then, my aunts/uncles/cousins come to my parent's and the gift opening, food eating, insult throwing continues!

On Christmas Day, my in-laws come to our house. Mr. Wonderful is one of 10 kids...so the gathering is fun and busy and full of good times and good food...and gift opening!

2. What is your favorite Christmas cookie (or candy)?

Christmas Wreaths.

My Great-Grandma Frieda made the most wonderful Christmas Wreaths known to mankind. Replete with those silver candy balls that they've now determined are poison and certain to cause cancer. Or Alzheimer's. Or bunions.

Something.

I've tried to make them...however, they turn me into an evil monster. An evil, sticky, green marshmallowy goop monster. I. hate. them.

But I love them.

I just wish Grandma Frieda were still around to make them. They did not turn her into a monster...and so I remain convinced that she took some secret Christmas Wreath making trick with her.

Good ol' Grandma Frieda. She rocked.

3. What's the worst Christmas gift you've ever received?

Once upon a time, I received a gift that was some sort of handmade/homemade cover for your head.

I think we called it a "babushka"...but I actually think a babushka is one of those little nesting doll thingamajigs.

Anyway...it was hideous. My cousin's wife at the time, got one too...and I remember us exchanging glances like..."WTF is this?!!", only "WTF" hadn't been invented yet at the time.

Just modernizing the story, is all.

4. Christmas song that you love?

I am a Christmas song junkie. I have created the BEST compilation of Christmas songs (only, This Daddy disagrees with me 'cuz I don't have the chipmunks on it. Pffffftttttt, to him.).

It is THE BEST. Here is one of my favorite songs from it:

Oh my word...are you still there???? YouTube just sidetracked me with all of it's amazing Christmas music!! Who knew Lady A sang "Baby It's Cold Outside"??? (For the record...don't hate me...I still think the Jessica Simpson/Nick Lachey version is the best!)...and the Barenaked Ladies' "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"???

*swoon*

I'm in heaven.

5. How many trees do you put up?

Wait...no, scratch that. I guess, technically, two. We have a small fake one downstairs.

Ooops. Speaking of fake...I lied. Make it five.

One year for Christmas, all our Belle wanted was "candy canes and Christmas trees"...you'd think she was deprived, or something...and her wonderful Godfather got her just wanted she wanted...in spades.

She got a set of three trees. With candy canes.

So, there. Technically, five trees.

Wait.

Lie.

Again.

This year?

Six. I forgot we bought a little guy to go out side to be decorated (at which, currently, he remains bare naked. Poor thing.) with white lights.

Yo. Mr. Dubya...after you re-center the tree that fell...let's decorate that cute baby tree outside, 'kay? ;)

---------------------------------------------

Oh how I hope you enjoyed the Christmas music! Have a fabulous weekend!

  1. LOL at your "babushka" that is too funny! Love "WTF" moments. Classic.

You need to grab Do You Hear What I hear? by Third Day for your Christmas tunes.

My tree fell over last year and we lost hundreds of ornaments. We had to wire it to the wall. It was hilarious!

  7. I'm laughing so hard at the "Babushka" gift. I know what you mean, we call it a Balaclava up here in the Great White North! And that would be a terrible gift, even for a Canadian!

Come here looking for the tutorial? It can be found here:  Halo Braid Tutorial!  Let me know how it goes! I had something in mind to try on Baby Girl's hair the other day...my best bud, Dr. J, did something similar to it on Belle once, and I was trying to replicate it. Instead, I got this: Isn't it pretty?! It didn't take nearly as long as it looks and isn't nearly as intricate as it looks! Vlog tutorial coming soon...(for those of you waiting, I'm sorry it's taking me so long!)

Halo Braid Tutorial!

How appropriate, "halo braid", no?! ;) Finally, I have this ready for you...I apologize for the delay! This braid looks intricate, but is really quite easy and quick to pull off...the original video (prior to the warp speed braiding...watch the video to see what I mean) was just a bit over 8 minutes long...not too shabby! So, here you go...right in time for you to try it out on your little girl for Easter!

Oh, hold it...wait just a sec (again)...actually, I got this recipe from Melissa...yes, the Melissa of this story ! And this story ...which, well...is the same story, just told two different ways! ;) So, you can thank her...I guess. Well, in any event...prepare your tastebuds to be tantalized! You'll need this: And, this: You'll also need chicken breasts or steak, but since photographing your "main ingredient" is, like, soooo passe, I've left it out. ( Ahem... ) Just keepin ' up with the times, friend. So...slice up those peppers and onions into cute little strips... And...try your best to not slice up the little fingers that are sneaking away pepper strips... (Lemme just inte
