Itchy Scalp? Listen up!

Living in MinneSOOOOOOta, I get to experience all sorts of things...hotdish, lutefisk (actually, I've never had it), triple digits below zero, walking on large bodies of water, saying "pop", "youbetcha" and "dontchaknow", and dry, itchy winter skin.

I know, I know...don't everyone rush here all at once. You know you want to.

As soon as the weather cools down, it chases away any and all of the moisture in the air, which, to be honest, coming off of the summer we just had, really isn't always that terrible.

Except for the toll it takes on your skin, including that on your scalp.

Enter Head and Shoulders, the shampoo that promises to ease the dryness, itchiness and sensitivity associated with dandruff.

So, what, exactly IS dandruff?

Well, it's a combination of scalp oils, a fungus called "Malassezia globosa" (doesn't that sound appealing?), and your body's reaction to that fungus. (Grody. I know) And while I don't suffer from dandruff, exactly, I sure do get the itchy scalp syndrome that comes along with the cool, dry, frigid Minnesota winter weather. (And, if I'm going to be honest, it always makes me wonder if the kids brought home lice. Double grody. And, you're welcome for the itchy/scratchy/buggy feeling I just gave you when I mentioned "lice".)

Knock on wood, it's never been the bugs (and so help me, if I blog about lice next week...ugh. Knock on wood for me, will you?), just the dry, itchy scalp of winter. So when I got the chance to try Head & Shoulders Eucalyptus Itchy Scalp Care, I was willing to give it a go!

After a few weeks of use, I can say that I do see a difference! The itchiness is less, which is a bonus all in itself, but I was also happy to discover that Head & Shoulders leaves my hair feeling squeaky clean and healthy, and smelling wonderful!

The eucalyptus leaves a cooling, tingly sensation after I've washed, which I love! And the scent of eucalyptus has always been one of my favorites. Not overpowering, not soapy, just fresh. And clean. And wonderful.

Did I mention fresh? ;)

  1. I'm also from a butt-cold climate known as Michigan and in the winter I have to use fabric softner on my hair to keep it from being staticky and lots of extra moisturizer everywhere, at least once a week I slather thick lotion on my hands and sleep with socks on them to help with the dryness and cracking. It ain't pretty.

  2. I have curly hair and live in New Orleans... whos weather seems to be the exact opposite of Minnesota! I cannot bare blow drying my hair in the summer because first its already 42 bajillion degrees before the blow dryer is even turned on, add that to the mix and its roughly 96 bajillion degrees in my bathroom, and second because the second I step outside into the swampy, muggy air, my hair is INSTANTLY frizz central. So with "cooler" temps (about 60-70 most days) I can break out the blow dryer!

  12. I noticed in the winter my scalp gets uber dry and itchy. I use moroccan oil or olive oil and wrap my hair in a towel or a plastic shower cap and sleep with it. I think using head and Shoulders would be a lot easier to deal with than the oils

Come here looking for the tutorial? It can be found here:  Halo Braid Tutorial!  Let me know how it goes! I had something in mind to try on Baby Girl's hair the other day...my best bud, Dr. J, did something similar to it on Belle once, and I was trying to replicate it. Instead, I got this: Isn't it pretty?! It didn't take nearly as long as it looks and isn't nearly as intricate as it looks! Vlog tutorial coming soon...(for those of you waiting, I'm sorry it's taking me so long!)

Halo Braid Tutorial!

How appropriate, "halo braid", no?! ;) Finally, I have this ready for you...I apologize for the delay! This braid looks intricate, but is really quite easy and quick to pull off...the original video (prior to the warp speed braiding...watch the video to see what I mean) was just a bit over 8 minutes long...not too shabby! So, here you go...right in time for you to try it out on your little girl for Easter!

You should probably finish reading this post first...you know...so you know how to make it... But then...STOP! STOP everything, make this, and thank me later! Oh, hold it...wait just a sec (again)...actually, I got this recipe from Melissa...yes, the Melissa of this story ! And this story ...which, well...is the same story, just told two different ways! ;) So, you can thank her...I guess. Well, in any event...prepare your tastebuds to be tantalized! You'll need this: And, this: You'll also need chicken breasts or steak, but since photographing your "main ingredient" is, like, soooo passe, I've left it out. ( Ahem... ) Just keepin ' up with the times, friend. So...slice up those peppers and onions into cute little strips... And...try your best to not slice up the little fingers that are sneaking away pepper strips... (Lemme just inte
