Five Question Friday! 3/18/11

Today marks the first of five whole days with my whole entire family! FIVE DAYS STRAIGHT! I can't wait. We're gonna watch movies and make cookies and dance and sing Kumbaya. Or, maybe we'll just all sleep in til noon everyday and eat Fruit Loops and Apple Jacks for every meal.'ll be grand. FIVE DAYS!, I'm in "tired"...just thought, since I've already tossed in a Southern "Yee HAW!!" that I'd throw some more Southern atcha. Imagine, if you will, what I've just thrown at you...a MinneSOOOOtan with a Southern accent.

Ooooooh MAH gawd, dontcha know how crazy that'd sound?! (PS...check out this clip of Taylor Swift immitating me, I mean, a MinneSOOOOta soccer mom...HEE-larious!)

Let's get 5QF goin'!!

Rules for 5QF: Copy and paste the following questions to your blog post, answer them, then watch for the linky to appear Friday morning! And the biggest rule of all?! HAVE FUN!!

Questions for Friday, March 18th: (Special thanks to @joleneslavik, @sarahruch,@HeartHunnyBe, Pam, and Colleen for their question suggestions! If you would like to be linked in a future 5QF, come over to my community and offer up your best question suggestions! And please do...things are getting slim over there! Shouting them out on twitter is fine, too! @5crookedhalos)

1. Have you ever testified in court? For what?

2. Do you still have your wedding dress?

3. Is there a special place you like to go when you're happy, sad, stressed, etc.?

4. If you have kids, do they sleep with you? If you don't have kids...will you let your kids sleep with you when/if you have them?

5. Do you watch late night TV?

1. Have you ever testified in court? For what?

GAH! Okay, so...guess what's gonna happen if I answer this question?

Yeah...the County DA's office will contact me on Monday telling me my number's up and I need to report for jury duty. you really want that on your head? Knowing that YOU were the reason I had to do jury duty.

Oh...wait. Time out.

"TESTIFIED"...not the same as jury duty. Nevermind...sometimes my blonde gets in the way. answer, NO.

Never testified. That's scary stuff.

2. Do you still have your wedding dress?

Yupper, I do!! And, I'm such a fabulous care taker of my dress that I haven't even gotten it cleaned.

That's right...10 years later and you can still smell the beer that the hem of my dressed soaked up off the floor. *Sigh*...oh, the sentimental value in that beer smell.

Actually, over the past 10 years, every time I thought about taking it to the cleaners, I would dream up something better to spend that hundred bucks new clothes for Spring...or a cute new pair of shoes...or some summer clothes for the kids...or some cute new shoes...or a new pair of capris...or some cute new shoes...

Well, you get the idea.

Yes, I still have my dress.

Now, just don't ask me if I still fit into it...

3. Is there a special place you like to go when you're happy, sad, stressed, etc.?

All good emotions I'm just fine with continuing on about my day. I like being is good then.

Bad emotions? Then I want my bed...and peace and quiet. And a good, long, uninterrupted sleep.

Or, a hefty bank account and a day at the mall.

Either one will usually lift my mood just fine...especially if the latter involves the purchase of a new pair of cute shoes.

4. If you have kids, do they sleep with you? If you don't have kids...will you let your kids sleep with you when/if you have them?

I'm in the former group...and yes. They do.

Well...three of my five do.

The Pal? He doesn't. He used to, then he reached an age that it just wasn't so cool anymore, and he stopped.

Which totally validated and solidified my theory that kids will eventually migrate to their own beds. E.W however? He has ALWAYS liked to sleep alone.

Even when he's sick...he just wants his own bed. Guess he takes after his mama!

5. Do you watch late night TV?

Er. No.

I don't watch early morning TV or mid afternoon TV or evening TV either. You takes having some sort of cable/satellite network to facilitate in the watching of said TV...and we've got nothin'.

Nothin' but DVD's and Xboxes and Wii's. And, I could probably subscribe to Netflix and watch some late night TV (hmmmm...could I?), but it wouldn't be the same. (Or would it?)

I hope you all have fabulous weekends!! I'm hoping to get around to reading some more 5QF posts this week! I enjoy them!!

  1. I realized after weeks of joining in I wasn't following you blog! So I'm a new follower - thanks for the great hop!

    Frugally Green Mom

  2. love it, haven't had mine cleaned either. no idea why I keep the silly thing

  3. Your answers are always hilarious!!! And, I had just told our daughter yesterday that I'm so afraid I'm going to be called for jury duty...and that I'm not a very good citizen if I feel that way!!! ;-)

  4. Love the wedding dress! I hear alot of that which makes me glad I rented mine.

and I long/dream for the days when I don't have cable. I know its a "choice" but the choice is my hubby and I, we like out TV dramas, and couch time after a long day at work.

  5. Well...I don't feel bad that mine isn't cleaned now! yay! Hope you have the best 5 days with the whole fam!

  6. I too still have my wedding dress in the cupboard. I think I only dry cleaned it once after the wedding so far and that was 10 yrs ago.

  7. If it hadn't been for my mom getting my dress cleaned, mine wouldn't be either. Don't know that it will ever get used again, but maybe we'll get it out to look at one day.

  8. The mall... with money... is always a good remedy! Enjoy your family only days!

  9. No comment on the wedding gown cleaning business...then again, maybe my SIL cleaned it after she used it. I'm right there with you on the bed sanctuary bit. Enjoy your 5 days with your family. Either option: baking, singing, etc OR sleeping til noon and eating sweet cereal for every meal sounds good to me!

  10. I have no idea where my dress is- but I know it hasn't been cleaned either =) It has been awhile since I linked up, but I love the 5Q. Happy Friday! =)

  11. I like a hefty bank account and shopping trip any old time

  12. Shopping works for me!!!! I've been known to do some damage control shopping a time or two.

My dress was cleaned as a gift and boxed! Thank the Lord. Now it collects dust, er the box does.

Love that you used my question.

  13. Your responses had me laughing. I was a bit sad when my 14 year old becan to care less about sleeping with me when her dad's out of town. I'm over that now and enjoy that we don't have to deal with the 10 minute argument of who's turn it is! The little one promises me she'll never ditch me...we'll see!

  14. Oooh Jury Duty!! I SO want to be called. I was sent a long form to fill out to add me to the jury pool but I haven't been called yet. I would love to have my say!

Our Colorado Trip

One week ago today, I had skied myself down a mountain (several times) and survived.

Oh, you guys...Colorado has captured my heart. I loved our vacation like you wouldn't believe and while I am not (nor will I ever be) a world class skier (let's be honest, greens are where you'll find me...and I won't be whizzing down them, either!), the mountains and the skiing and the fresh air and the walking everywhere? I grabbed a hold of me and doesn't seem to be making any moves to let go!

Check out this view from our hotel room!!

I just told someone today, "If I had had my kids with me, I'm not sure I would've come back." I felt so healthy and vibrant and alive...ugh, I wanna go back!

Funny story, the first evening we were in Beaver Creek, we walked down to the village and I got my first real look at the ski runs...I thought, "Huh. They don't look so bad." and we went about our business and had supper and went ice skating and tucked ourselves in…

Sludge.'s like a thick sludge, hard to wade through, difficult to know which way is up, feeling like you'll never get out of it.
Today was a rough day. I'm not sure if it was just setting in, or that grief coupled with today being Baby Girl's and my birthday, was just a bad combination, but whatever it was, I found it hard to keep the tears at bay.
Just when I thought I'd have it pulled together, I'd hear or read the words, "I'm sorry", or field a phone call, or think about the amazing outpouring of love and support...and the tears would flow. Fast and furious.
I've discovered that my rock, my strength, comes from being around family; specifically, my husband. When I'm alone, the thoughts and memories coming flooding in and the tears come pouring out. My brother-in-law, Verd, was an amazing man. Actually, "amazing" doesn't even do him justice, I wish I could find a word great enough to describe the kind of man he was.

My heart…

What I've learned.

Tomorrow marks the return to a "new reality" for our family.
After a couple of good days, I know everyone is apprehensive about what tomorrow will bring. I guess we'll just have to see.
This past week has taught me a lot...not the least of which was how many lives my brother-in-law had touched. Over 2,500 people waited in line, each for about 2 hours, to pay their respects to him at his wake. I was blown away...we were ALL blown away. At his funeral, the church held more people than it had ever held before...Christmas mass and Easter Sunday included.
Our priest was even amazed.
I also learned, probably most importantly, just what an amazing family I married into. Just how wonderful they all are, how strong they all are, how faithful they all are. As I spent this week "disconnected", I realized I was more connected than I had ever my family.
I learned that the things that matter most in life are those that can't have a value placed on them. It's no…
