Five Question Friday 6/17/11

Raise your hand if you are happy it's the weekend...*raises BOTH arms, waves them wildly*

It's gonna be a fun one around here! A little festival in our town, replete with parade, street dance, and "fair food" (and, I'm quite certain, many photo ops!)!

Oh, oh, oh, oh!!! And, guess what?! I'm finally getting highlights tomorrow! I know, dreadfully exciting, right? ;)

Okay, let's get this 5QF party started!!

Welcome to all of you newcomers! I'm glad to have you and I hope you enjoy yourself!

Rules for Five Question Friday: Copy and paste the following question to your blog post, answer them, then watch for the linky to appear tomorrow morning (any preferences as to time?) and LINK UP! I would LOVE for you to link back to me, but that is NOT a requirement! I just wantcha to have FUN!! (And, 5QF is also a quick, easy post for when your muses have gone on sabbatical or if you're just plain old too busy to write something else!)

Questions for Friday, June 17th: (Special thanks to @gasfamily, @MarandaLamping,Sandy, Lorilynne, and a question from the Deck of Random Question cards [i.e. sending out an SOS for question suggestions!] for their question suggestions! Have a fun question? Head over to my community or shout it out on twitter to me, @5crookedhalos, using hashtag #5QF!)

1. What is your favorite summer time activity?

2. Do you have one laundry soap you stick to, or do you buy whatever's on sale?

3. What is your favorite dinner to make in the summer?

4. Do you have any talents?

5. If you could instantly be an expert in something, what would it be? Why?

---------------------------------------------

1. What is your favorite summer time activity?

Swimming. Preferably, via a "jump off the deep end" (i.e. no gradual immersion via shoreline)!

There is nothing I love more (dramatic, much?) than jumping off a boat into the depths of a lake on a hot day. I love going from noisy, hot, humid surroundings to the cool, calm, quiet of underwater.

LOVE.

Last year, during our "family reunion", us lady folk went skinny dipping...and it was (now I'm gonna sound like a hippie) so freeing! So...FREE!! And refreshing! Probably ranks up there as one of my greatest memories with my family...aunts, cousins, mom...fabulous!

2. Do you have one laundry soap you stick to, or do you buy whatever's on sale?

I am a Tide girl, through and through. Specifically, Tide with Bleach. Way back when, I used to buy regular Tide for most of my clothes, and Tide with Bleach for my whites. Then, that got too high maintenance for me, so I went with straight up TwB.

However, last time I was at The WalMarts, they were all out of my trusty Tide with Bleach, as was I, hence the shopping for it, so I was forced to buy something else.

My big bro uses Tide with Febreeze, so I thought I'd give it a shot and WOO WEE!! Those first coupla loads were scent over load...but after those first few, it seems like it's been better, not quite as overwhelming.

Which is weird, now that I see that in writing, but well, it is what it is!

I think I'll buy my TwB next time, however...it's never failed me yet!

3. What is your favorite dinner to make in the summer?

My all time, favorite meal to make in summer comes during the dog days of August. Hot. Humid. Sticky. Heavy.

When the last thing I want to be doing is cooking.

Here's what that meal is:
Potatoes, boiled or mashed (mashed is better, but takes more work and energy)
Creamy Cucumbers (recipe forthcoming, perhaps?)
Corn on the Cob

And that's it.

Yum.

4. Do you have any talents?

Hmmmmm...well, I'm pretty good at giving birth, does that count?

I hope it does, otherwise I'll have to answer with a big, fat, bold, NO. Not a single one. Can't sew, can't sing, can't play an instrument, can't dance, can't tell a joke to save my soul, can't make my armpits fart or turn my eyelids inside out.

But, I can make a mean Creamy Cucumber! Okay, maybe cooking is my talent!

I'll take that...so, if I can't say "giving birth" I'll take "Cooking", for 1000, Alex.

5. If you could instantly be an expert in something, what would it be? Why?

Ooooooh, here's where I should insert a talent, right?!! No?

Fine.

Okay...and expert...well, what's coming to mind, right off the bat, is politics. Politics bore me to no end. I have my fundamental beliefs and morals as my political bookends, but an actual understanding of politics?

Meh.

I'd rather watch Entertainment Tonight or House Hunter's International that watch the GOP debate or the State of the Union address. I make it about 47 seconds in and I'm drooling on my shirt with glazed over eyes.

So, yeah...I'd pick politics...'cuz then I could actually debate topics and have knowledge to back up my beliefs!!

Alrighty-Oh! Your turn now!! I hope you all have a fantabulous weekend! And don't forget to enter your Mr. Wonderful in the 3rd Annual "Mr. Wonderfulest Contest" on Sunday! Click the link for details!

  1. Skinny dipping! You are such a rebel. :)

I'm going to need that creamy cucumber recipe as soon as possible, my garden is basically producing 10 a day and my kids are over eating them.

I would love to be an expert in politics! Do you think that would provid insight into why so many of them do idiotic things like Anthony Wiener? Because I'd love some enlightenment there.

Thanks for putting the five question friday together, it is really fun and definitely keeps my Friday's light and easy to write. I appreciate it!

    Have a great weekend!

  2. No Tide here---I break out in hives every time something touches me that was washed in Tide...and there are others that do that to me! It's quite frustrating!

  3. Hmm...skinny dipping...sounds real exciting. Don't know if I can muster enough courage to do that, what with everything a little loose now. This is my 2nd 5QF and I'm enjoying it. Thanks!

  4. Oooh, politics is a good one! It's hard to get involved in a political conversation if you can't back up what you're saying, it's not enough to just believe things SHOULD be a certain way when you talk to people about it. I really wish I was more informed but I just can't get myself interested in it, no matter how much I try. I do always vote though so I try to make it a point to know what and who I'm voting for....that's about as far as my interest goes.

  5. Thank You for the hop. Politics is a great one to be in the know about.

  6. Oooooh!! Now I wanna change my answer to Q5 to being an expert swimmer / diver!! I can swim, but I don't like swimming in the sea (or lake) or out of my depth, cos I'm such a wuss! (Well, I get cramp sometimes, so it scares me to be out my depth! :S ) You make it sound soooo much fun that I feel I'm missing out somewhat!

  7. I hear you about politics. I wish I cared, but I really don't. I know that sounds terrible. I really am a good citizen, despite my lack of interest in politics. Have a great weekend!

  8. I'm a Tide girl too! And if I cared more, I might join you in your quest to be a political expert. How's this for feminism...I usually just ask my husband if there's anything I need to know about what's going on in the world. Seriously...maybe I should be a little more knowledgeable on my own :)

  9. I had to say this about you on my blog. "Personally, I would recommend you go visit fivecrookedhalos.blogspot.com anyway, whether you participate in this meme or not. This is one funny lady, and I am always feeling entertained and upbeat after reading one of her posts. "

  11. Umm yeah, for talents, you are a GREAT writer! I have been following your blog for a couple of months now, and I find it very witty and entertaining. Don't sell yourself so short!

  12. I'm a Tide girl too! I used to do Tide w/ a Touch of Downy...but now I save a few bucks and just get plain Tide! :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Great link up! I'm new to your blog :)

    Have a great weekend

    ReplyDelete
  14. Oh, I so wish I could use Tide but my son's skin doesn't like it. :(

  15. Whao.. skinny diping.. haven't tried that as yet but I'm sure it will be fun.

  16. Your skinny dipping experience is really inspiring... hmm should seriously try that sometime!

And LOL on giving birth. I think mine is mostly still to be discovered :))

Come here looking for the tutorial? It can be found here:  Halo Braid Tutorial!  Let me know how it goes! I had something in mind to try on Baby Girl's hair the other day...my best bud, Dr. J, did something similar to it on Belle once, and I was trying to replicate it. Instead, I got this: Isn't it pretty?! It didn't take nearly as long as it looks and isn't nearly as intricate as it looks! Vlog tutorial coming soon...(for those of you waiting, I'm sorry it's taking me so long!)

Halo Braid Tutorial!

How appropriate, "halo braid", no?! ;) Finally, I have this ready for you...I apologize for the delay! This braid looks intricate, but is really quite easy and quick to pull off...the original video (prior to the warp speed braiding...watch the video to see what I mean) was just a bit over 8 minutes long...not too shabby! So, here you go...right in time for you to try it out on your little girl for Easter!

Crock-Pot Fajitas

You! Yes, YOU!! You must stop whatevertheheck it is that you are doing, and make this recipe. Right now. Tonight. Well...wait. You should probably finish reading this post first...you know...so you know how to make it... But then...STOP! STOP everything, make this, and thank me later! Oh, hold it...wait just a sec (again)...actually, I got this recipe from Melissa...yes, the Melissa of this story ! And this story ...which, well...is the same story, just told two different ways! ;) So, you can thank her...I guess. Well, in any event...prepare your tastebuds to be tantalized! You'll need this: And, this: You'll also need chicken breasts or steak, but since photographing your "main ingredient" is, like, soooo passe, I've left it out. ( Ahem... ) Just keepin ' up with the times, friend. So...slice up those peppers and onions into cute little strips... And...try your best to not slice up the little fingers that are sneaking away pepper strips... (Lemme just inte...
