Five Question Friday! 4/5/13

So stinking happy it's Friday! I'm ready for some family time. The Mr. and I have a date tonight, courtesy of my brother's girlfriend! She gave the Mr. one amazing Christmas present, and we're FINALLY cashing it in!

Dinner, a comedy show at a local theater, followed by dessert (creme brulee!!!) and wine at the bistro where K works...and my brother and K are providing the childcare! Looking forward to some quality time with my man.

Anyway, crazy busy day at work. Let's get to the questions!

1. Would you go to your high school reunion?
I have. And I would. To be honest with you, not my favorite thing to do, but I feel like I need to be a good sport and go.

My 10 year reunion was a bust. I was gigantically pregnant and it was held at a dive-y resort and we had pizza.

So, they redid it and had a 15 year. I didn't go, 'cuz you know what? I realized that everyone I want see and/or talk to from high school, I still do. Which means I also didn't attend our 16 year.

I want the anticipation of our 20 year without having a reunion every year. You know?

2. What's something that you've recently splurged on; either for yourself or someone else?

Remember those Frye boots that Zappos didn't have? Well, I found a different pair that I HAD TO HAVE from Country Outfitter and they arrived and I was all googly eyed and weak kneed and I wore them around the house here and there and then...well, and then I started having second thoughts.

I wasn't sure I was a boot person. (I'm kind of more of a heels and flats kind of a girl.) And they looked a little cowboy boot-ish and I realized my wardrobe was a tad too "PTA mom" to be fashionable enough to wear with boots and so, with tears in my eyes and a heavy heart, I did the responsible thing and shipped those spendy little buggers back to where they came from.

I decided that next season, I'm buying a less expensive pair of boots and if I wear them enough, THEN maybe I splurge on the Fryes...until then, feast your eyes on these little gems.

So. Freaking. Cute.

Totally impractical, but crazy cute.

3. How do you handle your child's fever?

Probably a bit differently than "most" moms. I hang out. Fevers are a sign the body is fighting something, so I medicate my kids if they seem uncomfortable or if the fever is getting too high, and then I just ride it out.

Hambone had a fever of 105.4 once, right after we had gotten home from the clinic with a strep throat diagnosis. Yeah, I freaked a bit, inside, called the clinic and they were all, "Yup. He's gonna do that." So I loaded him up with Ibuprofen and sure enough, his temp came down just fine.

I have a friend (hi, Megan!) who's daughter had influenza this winter and had a temp of 106.9. HOLY MOLY. She took her to the ER where the doctor told her they don't really do anything for high fevers anymore. No cooling techniques, no IV fluids, just upper end doses of Tylenol and Ibuprofen and watch them.

Apparently a person has to hang out at 107 for a couple of hours before the risk of brain damage sets in? Who knew?!

4. What's the nicest thing to happen to you lately?

Hmmmmmm...gosh. I'm not sure!

Oh, oh...I know. (And now I feel like I'm going to brag...) I was at work a couple of weeks ago and one of the family docs asked if I was going to be working on a certain day because a patient of hers that I had taken care of wanted to request me to be her nurse for her induction.

The doctor said, "Seriously, she's probably going to want to reschedule her induction when she finds out you aren't working!"

I totally remembered the patient and was so happy to know that I made such a positive impact in the delivery of her first baby!

5. What is your current favorite song?

TOTALLY in love with this song right now. TOTALLY.

Love, love, LOVE that song.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

  2. What a great song! Thanks for sharing. It might be my new current favorite!
I think we had the same philosophy with fevers. That's what being mom to five will do. :)
Have a great date night! I know those are precious when you're deep in the parenting trenches.
Thanks for hosting! Glad to join the fun today. :)

  3. Thanks for hosting! I love those boots too... and I probably could pull them off living in the rural town that I do... lol... but not sure what my coworkers would think in the "big city". LOL

  4. Happy Friday! I'm right there with you about the fevers. In fact, my little one woke up with one this morning, so he's wearing shorts and a t-shirt and trying to stay cool while his body fights off whatever got him. He had a 106.7 fever once (it ended up being Roseola), and when I was freaking out on the phone with the doctor she was like "It's OK. If he has a seizure, don't worry about it." Yeah, easier said than done!

    Have a great weekend!

Come here looking for the tutorial? It can be found here:  Halo Braid Tutorial!  Let me know how it goes! I had something in mind to try on Baby Girl's hair the other day...my best bud, Dr. J, did something similar to it on Belle once, and I was trying to replicate it. Instead, I got this: Isn't it pretty?! It didn't take nearly as long as it looks and isn't nearly as intricate as it looks! Vlog tutorial coming soon...(for those of you waiting, I'm sorry it's taking me so long!)

Halo Braid Tutorial!

How appropriate, "halo braid", no?! ;) Finally, I have this ready for you...I apologize for the delay! This braid looks intricate, but is really quite easy and quick to pull off...the original video (prior to the warp speed braiding...watch the video to see what I mean) was just a bit over 8 minutes long...not too shabby! So, here you go...right in time for you to try it out on your little girl for Easter!

Crock-Pot Fajitas

You! Yes, YOU!! You must stop whatevertheheck it is that you are doing, and make this recipe. Right now. Tonight. Well...wait. You should probably finish reading this post first...you know...so you know how to make it... But then...STOP! STOP everything, make this, and thank me later! Oh, hold it...wait just a sec (again)...actually, I got this recipe from Melissa...yes, the Melissa of this story ! And this story ...which, well...is the same story, just told two different ways! ;) So, you can thank her...I guess. Well, in any event...prepare your tastebuds to be tantalized! You'll need this: And, this: You'll also need chicken breasts or steak, but since photographing your "main ingredient" is, like, soooo passe, I've left it out. ( Ahem... ) Just keepin ' up with the times, friend. So...slice up those peppers and onions into cute little strips... And...try your best to not slice up the little fingers that are sneaking away pepper strips... (Lemme just inte
