Five Question Friday! 12/7/12

Is anyone else surprised at how busy life has become? I keep waiting for things to slow down a little bit, to have a period of time where there are no obligations, no plans, no nothing and it never seems to happen?

Our bathroom is really coming along! I'll post some pics soon!

1. How many times have you moved and do you have any tips?

2. Do you have a budget for the holidays, or just keep sliding the credit card and have a heart attack in Jan?

3. What is the one medical thing you avoid like the plague?

4. What your least favorite Christmas song?

5. This Christmas are you spending more, less or about the same? Why?

------------------------------------------------------

1. How many times have you moved and do you have any tips?
Do we count back and forth to college? I say no. So...4 times. That is, 4 times as an adult...we moved an additional 2 or so times as a kid, but I was just along for the ride for those moves!

My tips? Liquor boxes. Sure, you can buy bigger boxes, but they're cumbersome. Liquor boxes are small, have built in lids and handles and are easily stackable and not at all awkward to carry. KEY.

Also, LABEL!! And label appropriately and sub-label! For example: "Kitchen-Dishes" "Kitchen-Gadgets" "Bathroom-Towels"...but to be honest, I think we used a lot of our towels as packing cushion. You can't over label 'cuz you can be certain that when you're spending your first night in your new place that you'll be looking for your can opener ALL OVER and you can't find it, but if you've labeled well (I'm talking OCD labeling)...BOOM.

Can. Opened.

2. Do you have a budget for the holidays, or just keep sliding the credit card and have a heart attack in Jan?

We're pretty much "heart attack in January" people. I have a general idea of what I want to spend, but usually, I just spend until I get the job done.

I try to equally use our checking account and store credit cards (store savings, baby!) so that it's "doable"...but yeah. No hard and fast budget.

3. What is the one medical thing you avoid like the plague?

No one thing in particular, really.

I have this...thing on the side of my nostril that I need to get removed and I've been stalling on that. For one, 'cuz I asked to see a plastic surgeon to have it removed (vain much?), for two...do you have any idea how sensitive noses are?????? and for three, I got the referral quite awhile ago and there was some miscommunication (I thought they'd call me, I was supposed to call them) and now it's been so long I'm embarrassed that I haven't called.

So that's really the only thing I avoid much.

4. What your least favorite Christmas song?

Oh goodness...until yesterday, I didn't realize I had so many. There was a little Twitter debate/Facebook poll and wow. People need to stop making bad Christmas music.

Here are my standouts:
Merry Christmas, Darling...makes me want to vomit.
Christmas Shoes...Ugh. Dying moms in Christmas songs? Awful.
I Wanna Hippopatomus for Christmas. ANNOYING.
That song that says "A whoop de doo and hickory dock blah blah blah don't forget to hang up your sock! It's a merry little Christmas time." Ranks along side Hippo.
Santa Baby. Like my mom says, "There is no space for sluts in Christmas."

I'm sure this list is longer...but that's what I can come up with right now!

5. This Christmas are you spending more, less or about the same? Why?

'Bout the same. See question 2. Every year it usually ends up being about the same...unless one of the kids asks for a big ticket item, which they usually don't unfortunately.

Yes, I said unfortunately. Why? Because I'm so sick and blasted tired of the cheap, plastic CRAP that they ask for. Little hunting figures or Polly Pockets that are certain to be lost before the end of Christmas Day, not to be found again until we do a toy purge and then they're usually the first to go.

Weird, I know, wishing my kids would ask for expensive things. It would just save a lot of wasted money on things I know will end up in the garbage.

Have a wonderful weekend...we have our first Christmas celebration this weekend! Yay!

Come here looking for the tutorial? It can be found here:  Halo Braid Tutorial!  Let me know how it goes! I had something in mind to try on Baby Girl's hair the other day...my best bud, Dr. J, did something similar to it on Belle once, and I was trying to replicate it. Instead, I got this: Isn't it pretty?! It didn't take nearly as long as it looks and isn't nearly as intricate as it looks! Vlog tutorial coming soon...(for those of you waiting, I'm sorry it's taking me so long!)

Halo Braid Tutorial!

How appropriate, "halo braid", no?! ;) Finally, I have this ready for you...I apologize for the delay! This braid looks intricate, but is really quite easy and quick to pull off...the original video (prior to the warp speed braiding...watch the video to see what I mean) was just a bit over 8 minutes long...not too shabby! So, here you go...right in time for you to try it out on your little girl for Easter!

Crock-Pot Fajitas

You! Yes, YOU!! You must stop whatevertheheck it is that you are doing, and make this recipe. Right now. Tonight. Well...wait. You should probably finish reading this post first...you know...so you know how to make it... But then...STOP! STOP everything, make this, and thank me later! Oh, hold it...wait just a sec (again)...actually, I got this recipe from Melissa...yes, the Melissa of this story ! And this story ...which, well...is the same story, just told two different ways! ;) So, you can thank her...I guess. Well, in any event...prepare your tastebuds to be tantalized! You'll need this: And, this: You'll also need chicken breasts or steak, but since photographing your "main ingredient" is, like, soooo passe, I've left it out. ( Ahem... ) Just keepin ' up with the times, friend. So...slice up those peppers and onions into cute little strips... And...try your best to not slice up the little fingers that are sneaking away pepper strips... (Lemme just inte
