They Make Me Smile.

(Let's try this again...last week's post got eaten by my Blogger app, a kind reader had saved this post--Thank you, Mary!--and emailed it to me!)

Last week, as we were winding down for bedtime, my two littlest kiddos were playing a rousing game of hide-and-seek...what? Doesn't everyone wind down
with a wild game?

I called all the kiddos to come and pray and I made my
way to the girls' bedroom, which is where we say our nighttime prayers.

I knelt down, all alone at this point, and Baby Girl comes tearing into the room, barrels into the closet and becomes quiet as a church mouse (hide-and-seek, remember?) and one by one, the older four kiddos join me (the Mr. was away at a work conference).

We say our prayers (I know, I know, I should've called Baby out of the closet but I was pooped and just ready for bedtime.. ..don't judge) and, like every night, we add in a few "extra" intentions that are heavy on our hearts.

When the last person had said their "extra", this tiny, muffled voice pipes up from the depths of the closet, "I pray dat Verd gets to Heaven and dat daddy comes home safely and dat mommy is a good mama.", the laughter that bubbled up from inside me escaped from my lips and I saw 4 heads turn to
look at the closet, then back at me and suddenly, all of us were laughing hysterically...including the muffled little voice from the closet.

These are the moments that I hope are burned in my memory for a lifetime.

Oh, how we laughed, and laughed...and laughed!

And then we said "Amen"!

  2. :) Love this! Thank you for the smile this morning. I think your kids just learned a valuable lesson, too. So many folks do not associate faith with laughter, thinking it is only to be practiced with great solemnity. I think God smiles when he sees us worshiping joyfully! :) And isn't it religion that involves smiles, happiness and laughter so much more appealing?

Come here looking for the tutorial? It can be found here:  Halo Braid Tutorial!  Let me know how it goes! I had something in mind to try on Baby Girl's hair the other day...my best bud, Dr. J, did something similar to it on Belle once, and I was trying to replicate it. Instead, I got this: Isn't it pretty?! It didn't take nearly as long as it looks and isn't nearly as intricate as it looks! Vlog tutorial coming soon...(for those of you waiting, I'm sorry it's taking me so long!)

Halo Braid Tutorial!

How appropriate, "halo braid", no?! ;) Finally, I have this ready for you...I apologize for the delay! This braid looks intricate, but is really quite easy and quick to pull off...the original video (prior to the warp speed braiding...watch the video to see what I mean) was just a bit over 8 minutes long...not too shabby! So, here you go...right in time for you to try it out on your little girl for Easter!

Crock-Pot Fajitas

You! Yes, YOU!! You must stop whatevertheheck it is that you are doing, and make this recipe. Right now. Tonight. Well...wait. You should probably finish reading this post first...you know...so you know how to make it... But then...STOP! STOP everything, make this, and thank me later! Oh, hold it...wait just a sec (again)...actually, I got this recipe from Melissa...yes, the Melissa of this story ! And this story ...which, well...is the same story, just told two different ways! ;) So, you can thank her...I guess. Well, in any event...prepare your tastebuds to be tantalized! You'll need this: And, this: You'll also need chicken breasts or steak, but since photographing your "main ingredient" is, like, soooo passe, I've left it out. ( Ahem... ) Just keepin ' up with the times, friend. So...slice up those peppers and onions into cute little strips... And...try your best to not slice up the little fingers that are sneaking away pepper strips... (Lemme just inte...
