Five Question Friday!! 7/30/10

Yee haw!! It's Friday! (Er...ah...can I say "yee haw"? You know, since I'm from MinneSOOOOta and all? I'm not sure if it's legal for me to say "yee haw"...but I just did. So there.) ;)

I am sooooo excited for this weekend. No real plans, no commitments, no work for several days. It's gonna be heaven. Pure, unadulterated, heaven. (Did that make sense? I'm not sure that it did...it's pretty late as I'm writing this, and I'm feeling a little goofy. Bear with me.)

It's time for Five Question Friday!! Or, 5QF, as it's known 'round these parts! C'mon in and play...it's loads of fun and you'll have a blast, I promise! Pinky swear. Scout's honor. You will. Trust me on this one, 'kay?

Alright...here we go!

Rules for Five Question Friday: Copy and paste the following questions to your blog post, answer them, then c'mon back to link up (tomorrow)! If you don't have a blog (or already wrote a post), but would like to play along, feel free to leave your answers in the comments below!

Questions for Friday, July 30th: (Special thanks to Julianne, Ann (for inspiration), Jill,Bethany, and Tiffany for their question suggestions! We had some great ones roll in last week, thank you!!! If you want to be linked in a future 5QF, head on over here, to my community, and offer up your best question suggestions!)

1. Did you have a favorite blanket or toy as a kid? If so, do you still have it?

2. Do you dream in color?

3. How tall are you? Do you wish you were shorter or taller?

4. If you could have anyone's (celeb or other) voice as the guide on your GPS, who would it be?

5. Do you return your shopping cart to the corral or leave it wherever in the parking lot?

-------------------------------------

1. Did you have a favorite blanket or toy as a kid? If so, do you still have it?

I had neither a blanket nor a toy.

I had "Silky". Silky was my best friend, my confidant, my soul mate for the first few (and by few I mean several...and by several I mean that I just got rid of it last week...) years of my life.

Silky is a legend in my family. My aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, parents, neighbor's friend's sister's boyfriend's second cousin once removed, knew about me and my silky.

Silky was the silk border off of a blanket. I would rub my tongue (and this is where you will decide I'm a looney toon and run away laughing at my weirdness...) on the roof of my mouth and rub my silky on my upper lip.

I could also accordion the entire length of the silky between the fingers of one hand, absentmindedly, while watching the Smurf's. Or the Jetson's. Or maybe the Bozo show.

It was a talent. I can still do it...but without the speed and agility that I used to have.

Dang...I shoulda vlogged this. I could've shown you my sweet silky skillz.

Boy, would you have been impressed!

2. Do you dream in color?

Do I dream in color?!

I dream in freakin' High Def!!!

Seriously. It's scary. My dreams are so detailed and I remember them so well, I think there must be something wrong with the way my brain works.

Ahem...or, maybe you've already figured that out.

For example, just the other night, I dreamed I was touring Dooce's house. (And, for the record, I'm not even an avid Dooce reader...but I do love her house.) It was like I was there, gorgeous hardwood floors and all.

This question totally puts this song in my head.

Hello 1994, it's been so long since I've seen you!!

3. How tall are you? Do you wish you were shorter or taller?

I am 5' 7".

Okay...well, actually, I'm 5' 6 1/4", but since I'm an optimist, I prefer to take that extra 1/4 inch and round up.

I'm like that. Except if it comes to my weight. Then I totally round down (a couple of pounds...).

I have always and forever wished I was taller.

Actually, I take that back. What I've always wished, is for my legs to be in proportion to my body. So...that would make me either 6' 7" if my legs were in proportion to my torso, or 4' 8" if my torso were in proportion to my legs.

My legs are short. Oddly short.

It's not cute. Trust me.

4. If you could have anyone's (celeb or other) voice as the guide on your GPS, who would it be?

Oooooh...I'd pick that one guy.

You know...that one? Argh!! Why can't I remember his name?

He's African-American, used to stutter as a child, and has an amazing soft, deep, melodic voice.

Oh...wait. We said on my GPS. I don't have a GPS.

Remember? I have a baby who hates malls. Soon, my inner GPS will be zeroed in on everymall and I will develop a nervous twitch and profuse sweating as I come within a 10 mile radius of it.

Oops. Digression. Back to the voice...hold please, let me google.

Okay, back now. Sorry that took so long, internet snafu...

James Earl Jones.

That's who. If I had a GPS, I would like James Earl Jones to tell me where to go.

5. Do you return your shopping cart to the corral or leave it wherever in the parking lot?

Amen and YES!!

Even with my boatload of kids, I do.

But really, only because it drives my mom crazy. It's her pet peeve and she says not very nice things about people who don't bring their carts back.

And, I'd hate for her to say those things about me, so I just take my cart back.

It's easier that way.

And much healthier for my psyche if I'm not wondering if my mom is talking smack about me.

Although...I've gotta admit...it is kind of annoying when the carts aren't back in the corral.

Just sayin'.

--------------------------------

Okie dokie smokie! There ya have it! Next week...I'm thinking I might vlog 5QF from the road! It'll be like "5QF: On Location!!"

Stay tuned, I'm sure it'll be real exciting. Or something. ;)

  1. I never had a dream as detailed as yours ever. Sometimes I can remember a tiny part of it which not help me to remember the entire dream at all. But mostly I forget about all my dreams when the morning comes (lol)
    Happy Friday.

  2. Oooh, enjoy your low-key weekend. Those are the best!

  3. I would love a weekend like yours. Enjoy it! I love your idea of James Earl Jones as the GPS voice, good one! That would be very calming instead of robovoice on the thing. I hate how the pronounce the words, some times it's just so comical I almost want to turn around and make it say it again! LOL!

  4. Even 5 foot six is a respectable height. There are lots of people much shorter!

    ReplyDelete
  5. My legs are the same way! I'm 5'8" with the legs of a 5'4" person. My mom is 5'1" and her legs are almost as long as mine....

Oh, the trials we endure. :(

  7. LOL at rubbing your tongue on Silky. I sucked my cloth dolls hands right off!!!!1

  8. I totally understand your silky thing. Having worked in a Parent's Day Out program for 7 years, I've seen all kinds of lovies. One of "my" babies had not a stuffed animal nor blanket, but a pillow case (same concept as your silky only not so adept with the weaving between the fingers thing).

  9. Too funny I picked James Earl Jones too. He is just so smooth. Any your mom would be cursing me I guess cause sometimes I don't bring the cart back. Sorry Mom! Have a great weekend!

  10. So, you're saying that you want to have Darth Vader tell you how to get to your destination? LoL LOVE it!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Dang, I wish I dreamed like that! And James Earl Jones is a great choice, he does have an amazing voice. I choose Darth Vader for my hubby, and a little tidbit, James Earl Jones did the voice for Darth Vader! lol I know kinda dorky! lol Enjoy your weekend!

  12. I seriously have been wondering how we are so similar. Returning carts... keeping our childhood items, and choosing JAMES EARL JONES for our GPS's.

    LOVE IT.

And now I know who I'm stalking the next time I come out to MinneeesOOOOta. :) LOL (kidding. kind of.)

  13. Ha! I totally said James Earl Jones too!

And, as a Texan, I'll give you permission to say "yee-haw". As long as you pretend to throw a cowboy hat in the air when you say it.

My moms pet peeve is the cart too. I said that on my blog. Thanks for letting me join in and I will go read the others. Toodles Kath'

  18. So funny! The silky had me laughing in my seat! I'm sure you have tons of skillz.
I'm totally on board with the carts! Back always.

  20. My little sister had a "bunbun". It was this wierd bunny puppet thing from Fisher Price. The head looked like a bunny and the "body" was a blanket with silky stuff around the edge. She would put her middle and forth fingers in her mouth and suck, and then rub the sily part of the blanket on her upper lip. Weirdest thing ever! I thought she was the only oddball though!! Guess not! = )

  21. I actually posted a long time ago about still having my blanket! :) Funny. And I always return my cart too, kids and all. I feel especially bad for those workers in the AZ heat.

Guess what? Next Friday I am taking a trip to pick up our new puppy. Guess where I go to get him? MN! Crazy, right?

  22. This is awesome! I don't have a chance to answer the questions this friday. booooo! but I'll be back next friday. :-)

  24. James Earl Jones? But Morgan Freeman narrates everything! He's my man. ;)

BTW, I had my daughter answer the questions this week. Maybe some more people will have their kids answer. It's brilliantly funny!

Come here looking for the tutorial? It can be found here:  Halo Braid Tutorial!  Let me know how it goes! I had something in mind to try on Baby Girl's hair the other day...my best bud, Dr. J, did something similar to it on Belle once, and I was trying to replicate it. Instead, I got this: Isn't it pretty?! It didn't take nearly as long as it looks and isn't nearly as intricate as it looks! Vlog tutorial coming soon...(for those of you waiting, I'm sorry it's taking me so long!)

Halo Braid Tutorial!

How appropriate, "halo braid", no?! ;) Finally, I have this ready for you...I apologize for the delay! This braid looks intricate, but is really quite easy and quick to pull off...the original video (prior to the warp speed braiding...watch the video to see what I mean) was just a bit over 8 minutes long...not too shabby! So, here you go...right in time for you to try it out on your little girl for Easter!

Crock-Pot Fajitas

You! Yes, YOU!! You must stop whatevertheheck it is that you are doing, and make this recipe. Right now. Tonight. Well...wait. You should probably finish reading this post first...you know...so you know how to make it... But then...STOP! STOP everything, make this, and thank me later! Oh, hold it...wait just a sec (again)...actually, I got this recipe from Melissa...yes, the Melissa of this story ! And this story ...which, well...is the same story, just told two different ways! ;) So, you can thank her...I guess. Well, in any event...prepare your tastebuds to be tantalized! You'll need this: And, this: You'll also need chicken breasts or steak, but since photographing your "main ingredient" is, like, soooo passe, I've left it out. ( Ahem... ) Just keepin ' up with the times, friend. So...slice up those peppers and onions into cute little strips... And...try your best to not slice up the little fingers that are sneaking away pepper strips... (Lemme just inte
