My Little Life

Lake life is where it's at, friends.  We've had two days of glorious weather and today,it's lousy and cool. Boo.  Last evening we went fishing and slaughtered the crappies...that's "crop-ees", for those of you that think maybe I'm excited about catching poop. Fish. Not poop. I've decided that owning a resort would be the perfect business venture for the Mr. and I. I could live my dream of lakeshore living and my entrepreneur husband could work his ever loving butt off as resort owner. Win-win, right?! :) I've been a slacker with taking pictures with my "big-girl" camera and have been turning to my iPhone camera more often than not...a glimpse of the last couple of days:

After preparing and packing for a vacation...we NEED a vacation!! Holy man. This is a lot of work! The pink eye saga continues...last evening the 4th of 5 children fell victim. Thank you to whomever recommended the tea bags (I'm too lazy to go look right now!)...while they don't seem to be shortening the course, the kids all say they are super soothing to their irritated eyes! On Day 4 for Hambone, his eyes are not quite as fiery red, but still swollen and goopy. I'm now certain that we're dealing with viral pink eye...the doc said Hambone had "hemorrhagic conjunctivitis" (sounds horrible, huh?!) which is most commonly caused from a virus. Seeing as how the drops aren't really helping one bit, I think she's spot on. Call me a horrible mother, but I was actually HOPING that we were dealing with a bacterial conjunctivitis, 'cuz then the drops would've helped quickly. Instead...we're left to run the course. Boo. Last Tuesday, at a baseball game, I noticed my baby girl's eye was awfully boogery. By the time I had wiped away said eye boogers for the gazillionth time in approximately 15.3 minutes, it dawned on me that, perhaps, something  was going on with her eye. As in, PINK EYE. Never had that before, round these parts.  I watched it, it didn't seem to bother her, so I decided to just wait it out. Then, Saturday afternoon, I received a text on my lunch break at work that said, "Hambone has the same thing in his eyes that Baby Girl had"...and I shrugged my shoulders and continued to snarf down my lunch. What I wasn't prepared for when I saw my baby boy was how bad his eyes looked. Already, on Day 1, his eyes were worse than baby's had EVER gotten. I, however, being of the "nurse mom" variety that refuses to visit the ER unless it's for a heart attack or missing limb (well, and for abdominal pain, too, I've learned) dug my heels in and knew w

The other night, I was >thisclose< to being asleep when I felt something on my shoulder. I brushed at it, and in the moonlight, saw something dark move on my bed. GAH!!!! I sat up quickly and flicked on my bedside lamp and saw...nothing. "Huh, that's weird." I thought when suddenly, from under one of the pillows, the biggest, blackest, most gigantic ant I've ever seen in my life scurried out, RIGHT FOR ME. You know how they say that ants can carry, like, a thousand times their body weight? Well, I'm convinced that that ant was trying to carry me away, back to his queen where they'd perform some sort of human sacrifice ritual for the ant gods. Anyway, I gasped, fearful for my life, and smacked my dead to the world, sound asleep husband, who woke in a stupor and began hitting the bed in an attempt to get the creature that was about to steal his wife in the still of the night. Technically, this is my soon to be cousin-in-law's salad, so I'll technically call it "Gram's Laura's Boy Choy Salad" because I've started a theme that all of our recipe's start with "Gram's" and if I don't follow that theme I'll break out in hives and start sweating profusely. Excuse my OCD. In any event, you will want to promptly make this salad...it is one of my absolute favorites, and even more of a treat when Laura brings it! (Doesn't food always taste better when someone else makes it?!) Okay, here we go...(excuse the camera photos, I forgot my "big girl" camera at home and didn't have time to run and grab it!). First up, the most tedious part...chopping. Chop up the Bok Choy into, as Laura says, "frustratingly small, but delicious" pieces. :) Add in sliced green onion, and set aside. And Mama is POOPED, y'all. I think my baby girl has pink eye. Her first symptom was just eye boogers like crazy...now, it's red and starting to bug her a bit. Diagnosis, anyone? Can I tell you how thankful I am that it appears as thought summer has actually, legitimately arrived? Sunshine and warmth are good for the soul.
