Back To School! Then...and Now!

Raise your hand if you remember floppy disks. *raises hand* And, now, I'm talking the REAL floppy disks...the thin, black, floppy, papery square things that we used to use in computer s before the smaller, black, sturdy square things that were the predecessor to the itty bitty SD cards we have now. How about that green turtle that served as the cursor arrow on those archaic old computers? Remember those? Or, or...OR!! How about when the school...the WHOLE DANG SCHOOL owned like 5 computers. TOTAL. Remember that? Our current household now houses more computers than the first computer lab I ever sat in. How old am I!?! Sheesh...here's another little tidbit that'll date me. Once upon a time, I believe somewhere in the Kriss Kross "Jump Jump" era, jean bib overalls were HOT. The bigger and baggier the better, and when you wore one of your straps off your shoulder? Well HOT DAMN! You were something else. So, someone I know *ahem* had a $100 school...

Talking about "firsts"...it doesn't have to be difficult!

My big girl is growing up. It kinda makes my mama's heart a little sad, as I see a teeny bit of her "kid-ness" disappear each day (although, trust me, there is still PLENTY of kid there!). I love watching my kids grow up, but as they grow, it brings up a multitude of conversations to be had! Birds and the bees, boyfriend/girlfriend issues, friend debacles, Santa Claus/Easter Bunny/Tooth Fairy conversations, and one I vividly remember having with my mom--shaving my legs. Seriously, I can remember it like it was yesterday ... I was going into 6th grade, I had hairy legs, and I was sooooooooo wanting to be grown up enough to shave. My pitch? "Girls wear skirts a lot more in middle school. I need (yes, it was a need) to shave my legs 'cuz I'll be wearing more skirts." It worked! My mom went and bought me supplies to start shaving my legs! BlogHer and Venus provided me the opportunity to really start thinking about this impending conversat...

Felt Board Giveaway!

Several weeks ago, I was approached by Betty Lukens to review some of their felt boards. Didn't take me long to say yes, as I remember playing with felt boards in elementary school and loving them! When they arrived, you'd've thought it was Christmas morning over here. The kids were so exstatic and immediately began delcaring which board belonged to whom, and then? Oh my friends, AND THEN? Silence. Pure, sweet, silent silence, as they all played with their boards. I honestly haven't heard that kind of quiet (wait...can you "hear" quiet?) when they are all awake in...well...in...gosh...in forever, I guess! They all quietly played...Baby Girl even "walking" her felt people around the doll house board. Belle, our fashionista, gave me several different style board options, E.W. was hard at work on the farm and Hambone and his kindergarten "sponge like" brain was loving the alphabet board. The quality is phenomenal, the colors bold and bright, ...
