In the Kitchen with Gram...Gnocchi and Pork!

Gram and I were just talking about how wonderful this whole cooking thing has been...I'm not sure why we've never done it before, but the time we set aside each week to spend together, cooking, has been the most wonderful thing in the whole wide world. Sure, it was this goofy old blog that was the premise behind it, but man alive, it's turned into quite a blessing! Anyway, today's recipe involves butter, lots and lots of butter, and onions...onions that are soaking in a butter bath, and gnocchi (potato dumplings) that take a dive into that butter bath with the onions and then pork and sauerkraut. But if you really wanna know, it's the gnocchi and the butter and onions that steal the show. *swoon* And, as is typical with the majority of Gram's recipes, nothing is difficult with this recipe! Alright, grab your pork, toss it in a roaster,  Season well (dare I say "heavy") with salt and pepper: And "brown" it in the ove...

In the Kitchen with Gram...Half-Baked Potatoes!

No, these are not "sorta stoned" potatoes. Nor are they partially cooked. They are, unarguably, the most delicious little potatoes you'll ever have in your whole ding dang life. You can quote me on that. Okay, I was going to try to tweet the recipe on Twitter and realized it was just too much trouble...the whole 140 characters bit. So, here you go. This is a "Gram Original", so you can thank her for that...I just didn't cook them with her this time. Now...here's something new...food blogging via iPhone camera! Grab your potatoes. You'll probably want to over-estimate the amount you'll need, otherwise you'll run out and your family will give you dirty looks because they want more of that magical deliciousness that you just served them. Cut those bad boys in half length-wise: Then, cut a cute little "star slit" in them (look closely to see the star...you know, like an X with a line through it top to bottom): Ne...

In the Kitchen with Gram...Potato Pancakes!

Otherwise known as "Pot Pancakes" according to my grandma's recipe book! I saw it and exclaimed, "GRAM!!!"...gosh, between my grandpa's pot plant and now the pot pancakes I'm beginning to wonder! ;) What I'm about to share with you are, without a doubt, the most delicious potato pancakes known to mankind. You're welcome for that. I would also like to take a moment to rub it in, just a little bit more, to my Aunt J that I got potato pancakes and she didn't. Neener neener. So...I suppose you'd like to see how they're made? Alrighty then... The line up: Potatoes, peeled, cut into chunks... Then processed in batches (or grated) to a coarse dice texture: Prior to the last batch of potatoes, toss in an onion with one batch. Next, the salt and flour. Now's the time to get your Crisco heating in your skillet. You want the oil quite hot when you start to fry...or you might cry like Gram says ...
